Heading to the alps this August on a family holiday and a waterpark has just opened up in Avoriaz that looks worth a visit.
I know to get there on bike, but what's the best way on foot?
We will have lift and buss passes!
Ta
up the super morzine cabin and 4 man then a walk across the ridge into avoriaz. 45 mins or so to walk across.
iirc If you go up that side of the valley from Morzine, then its two lifts to the top, and about a 2km traverse across to Avoriaz.
I suspect that there will be buses running, seems odd that they would build the waterpark up there rather than in Morzine itself where most holidaymakers are.
or if you can get up there take the telepherique up to avoriaz. its a couple of miles out of town though.
must be buses...surely they dont expect visitors to hike there.
defo avoriaz, its called aquariaz.
tight trunks/budgie smugglers compulsory!
there are defo buses. you'll find them at the information centre in the centre of town. no idea how often they run. its a fun road in either direction. plenty of switchbacks.
I got from Morzine to Switzerland on foot to collect a downed riders bike. Easy
with a six year old?
there used to be busses from the Pleny in the centre of Morzine to Prodains then take the Prodains Cable car up to Avoriaz. (The bus allegedly take bikes too, for everyone else info)
much les walking than using the supermorzine/zore lifts
Depending on where in Avoriaz the park is the walk is most likely up a steep hill on Tarmac.
Hope you're good at piggybacks
Staying in Prodains next to the lift in a few weeks, so I presume quicker to get to the runs down into Les Lindarets, than if we were in Morzine and taking the Super Morzine?
It's probably quicker going via Prodains from Morzine to Avoriaz if you're a biffer on a DH bike. So yes Scamper. In fact you can drop straight onto the Avoriaz tracks without having to drop into Lindarets and take the lift back up as you have to on the way from super morzine
Prodains is looks like a nice sleepy hollow, I've not tried any of the routes from Avoriaz to Prodains though, the cliff kind of psyches me out...
Actually - no Prodains lift this summer
"Due to an accidental problem on the suspension cable of the Prodains cable car, the SERMA is not able to open the cable car of the Prodains during the summer. (June 30 to September 2, 2012.)"

accidental problem on the suspension cable of the Prodains cable car
Glad that did'nt occur when we went in Feb!!
I had better not let the kids read about accidental damage to a cable!
Balls. The hotel seemed to suggest it would be fixed.
At least we have the car to get down to Morzine (not that i'm lazy or anything. Map suggests a few non VTT tracks down to Prodains from Avoriaz, but have no idea how techy they are.
with a six year old?
In good weather yes. In incremental/changing not a chance!
Thinking about it - the section from the top of Zore to Avoriaz is very mellow and should be Okay on a bike even for a 6 year old, and should be a bit faster...
Don't know what the options are for hiring kids bikes though.
On you way back I'd take the (very quiet) road back down as far as the top of the supermorzine lift and use that to descend back into town. Unles you're adept at chasing kids at mach ten around alpine hairpins...
Sorry to sidetrack again. Is the route from the Super Morzine down to Les Linderates along the top then down that VTT trail which begins at the top of the road link? Think i took it a few years ago.
Right. So.
From Morzine to Avoriaz
Take the superMorzine cable car.
Exit the Super Morzine Cable car, it's about 50m to the Zore chairlift.
From the top of Zore there is a smooth doubletrack fireroad which climbs a little, then descends/climbs gently for a couple of miles through a small section of forest.
This brings you out on the Avoriaz road, close to the road junction to Lindarets.
Just off this junction there is a path track that descends into Lindarets. (Scamper)
Alternatively you can follow the road up to Avoriaz which climbs steadily for another couple of miles. (OP)
Scamper I think the road to the left for 5ms then immediate to your right
There's a bus service from the top of Super M to Avoriaz because the Prodains lift isn't working (too much dynamite was used when sorting the foundations for the new lift they're installing!)
Tourist office will be more help than this forum I bet - morzine.com ๐
