grey is the equivalent of a shiny suit in a car showroom.

And I'm sure you don't need telling, but this (and anything like it) is wrong, bad and ugly:

grey is like stepping back in time 25 years. Peach bridesmaids dresses and all.

Black.

Only the groom or the father of the bride should ever wear grey and even then it's rather non-u, donchaknow.

Wear a PROPER tie, not one of those dreadful ruched wendyballer ones.
Decent waistcoat, of course. Bottom button undone.

A silk kerchief in the top pocket or a fresh rose can really set it off as well for that overly dapper touch!

I got my morning suit second hand in a posh charity shop in Wombledin village. The first time I wore it, I found an O-level spanish exam paper from Eton in the tail pocket. 😀

bit of an affectation that, fatso 😉

The five-and-one is the style made popular by porky old Edward VII. As he got more and more well-fed, he found he couldn't quite do up his vest, so he started to leave the bottom button undone (well, he had no choice). All his bum-licky associates started copying him to prove they were part of his gang. And you thought fashion tagging was a modern phenomenon?

Dapper and traditional is what I'm after. Black topper to match coat too, not grey?

Affectation or tradition, Stoner? After all, morning dress does all stem from Queen Vic spending too long in mourning dress!

"morning dress does all stem from Queen Vic spending too long in mourning dress! "

er. actually no it doesnt, It comes quite literally from being a gentleman's riding attire for the town, for a morning ride /constitutional. It's precisely why the jacket is cut high for sitting on horses etc. and can be worn up till & 7pm if a long day out, and no opportunity to re-attire is available, but only till 5pm otherwise. It's why the jacket is cut high, for sitting on horses, boneshakers etc. Grey is perfectly acceptable for male members of the wedding party and has been for over a hundred years provided that is what the groom is wearing.

Affectation or tradition, Stoner?

The whole idea of morning dress is both...

If jahwomble is correct, we should all be wearing shorts and t shirts as morning dress 😉

Don't forget Oakleys with Iridium for the summer, Mike. Simon excused Oakleys if he sits in the shade with a long lens.

I do have some sunnies (which cost me 99p) but it never seems to get bright enough for me to need them...
