As it happens Jackson my brother wrote the original PCA report into the killing of Stephen Lawrence. That report actually was fairly unequivocal in its criticism of the Met, not for racism, but for incompetence. His view of it having been the invesitgating official was that they would have cocked it up regardless of the races involved. Accordingly not racist. The Macpherson report splits opinion very widely amongst those who do know the Lawrence case intricately. The killing was racist, the Met may well be, but that investigation was simply incompetent.
I also happen to know as a result that there are plenty of bad apples in the barrel, and also that it is increasingly difficult for them to get away with it nowadays, as the video clip at the top of this thread clearly demonstrates. That is not being unquestioning of authtority, its just applying the same rules to them that you and I would expect. innocent until proven otherwise. There is no evidence of wrongdoing per se in the video.

No Ernie I can make up my own mind - I resent anything that is / or can be construed as divisive. (especially by ****wit nenderthals in the BNP) We are all brothers - there is no need for division or separation within society. As you may have guessed I come from a very divided society, and I dislike anything that can be seen as a bar to an inclusive society. Surely that's what you want to?
Don't know the full story (none of us ever will) but have you ever seen how agressive some ****ers can be when they're full of booze and drugs, especially towards the police when they turn up? I've seen four cops trying to restrain a fat 50ish woman in Brighton and having a hard time of it. Not a violent person myself, but some people only understand one langauge when they're wasted.

You've just restored my faith! 🙂 This is firmly what I believe in. We've had over the years, PACE, Macphearson report that have sought to improve due process to gain more robust convictions through the courts.
Recordings showing the police, arguably being heavy handed, undermines the progress we have made.(IMO)

I know quite a bit about the NF/BNP/Fascists Slapper. I've got a very good mate who was for many many years, in the NF/BNP - his whole life revolved round fascist politics. He was also heavily involved in Blood and Honour - wrote music, lyrics, preformed, and recorded. He says it's all behind him now (now reads the Guardian) but I have my suspicions on whether or not he voted BNP the other day. He knows it's wrong, but then so does a reformed alcoholic. He still homophobic though, he somehow thinks that's ok. He's told me some very interesting stories, including about the amount of gays there were in the NF leadership.

Whilst for obvious reasons I have many like-minded friends, I don't choose my friends solely on the bases of their politics. And I [i]can[/i] be friends with racists - and homophobes. And yes even with fascists. I despise the ideology, but not necessarily the people.
Difficult to understand ? Well I suspect that's probably because you don't understand how people with my perspective view politics. For me politics is a vehicle for social change, I don't see it as some sort of game where you take sides and support a certain 'team'.
In my experience NF/BNP members who I have had conversations with, have without exception, been working-class (I haven't yet met a Nick Griffin type) And I have on previous occasions stated that the BNP/fascists 'exploit genuine grievances'.
I have had the very good fortune to have been brought up in an environment which very strongly instilled into me the belief that all humans regardless of race, class, and origin, are born equal. And furthermore have certain unalienable rights as human beings throughout their lives - whether they be royalty or rough-sleepers. Others have been less fortunate than me.
Those influences have lead me to come to the conclusions which I have come to. Others who have experienced different influences to me very often to come to different conclusions. However, the premises are often correct even though the conclusions might not be. Those amongst the working-classes who are seduced by the simple solutions which fascism has to offer, have at least identified that problems exist however wrong their conclusion might be. An important step which should not be dismissed. Many don't even get to that stage, or at least feel that they should simply tolerate whatever is foisted upon them.
The blame for the rise of fascism cannot be placed simply on those who are attracted to it's simple and yet destructive influences. Society as a whole, and political failure in particular, are also indisputably to blame.
I could go on endlessly, but I won't. Other than to say that this does not in any way reduce my complete intolerance to fascism and racism. But the enemies are fascism and racism [i]not[/i] abandoned/misguided sections of the working-classes. Although in the finale analysis, giving them a good kick-in might be required 🙄

Erm....... not quite the case. Whilst like most people I have many who could be described as both racist and homophobic, I've only got one who was formerly involved in fascist politics. Although I did get on well with a BNP herbert on a site where I was working a couple of years back - the bugger used to leave photocopies of nazis stuff where I was working just to wind me up. I've had conversations with quite a few though.
