My mum doesn't have the facility to have a phone where she is currently and can't work the buttons on her mobile, or indeed even pick it up to answer.
So, any ideas on a mobile based solution for her but with hands-free facilty ?
We bought her a cheap massive button house phone which worked well as she only had to press the 1 button to answer and went straight on speakerphone, but her current living accommodation doesn't have landline.
Thought and ideas appreciated as my Google/Ebay isn't happening
Parrot etc do loads of standalone car bluetooth sets. They'll all do voice activation/answering/dialling with the phone paired properly.
Agreed, but she's not in a car lol. So I assume we'd have some compatibility of charging issues ? Can that be overcome with a plug to 12v lighter converter ? Also not sure they're compatible with her phone, but that's not a major issue as we can get a new phone if needed.

I got a Supertooth Bluetooth handsfree for the car and it's a standard micro USB, so can be charged easily from most phone/tablet chargers or a laptop.
battery last ages, connects instantly and works brilliantly. My hard of hearing father-in-law is considering getting one to permanently use with his phone as the speakerphone option on his phone isn't very loud.
The one I have doesn't have any voice dialling features, but there are plenty now that do.
Couple of options that support voice dialling:

I need to find out if her phone has Bluetooth I guess.
Voice answering on that ? or will that depend on the model of phone it's connected to ?
The chances of her phone not having Bluetooth are pretty small, but worth checking.
Voice answering works through the Bluetooth device as I understand it, but you have to have a new enough phone for it to work - I suspect that is anything within the last 5 years or so.
Thanks for the info.
Don't need to worry about the voice dialling, would be nice of course, but not essential.
What about starting with a bluetooth speaker? Mobile fun (just for example) have several that incorporate a microphone.

This, for example, with one, nice big, button for operation.
Not sure that really helps with things mate sadly... sorry.
We have a bluetoothe speaker that works with the mobile quite nicely.

No problem, it was just a thought.
I'm interested as to why, though - although it's obviously primarily intended for music, the implication is that it can be used as a handsfree kit, the same as an in car unit would work - just without the car...
How much money do you want to spend. The new google phones voice recognition is very impressive. Buy one for her on contract, spend an hour with her setting it up, then she should be able to just talk to it. they are "alway listening" so no physical interaction required at all. Just say "ok google..." then Afaik it will do anything you want!
"ok google, call weeksy"
"ok google, what time does countdown start?" ๐
"ok google, remind me to pick up my prescription tomorrow"
Money isn't a factor for it, the functionality will be almost life changing.
Alaric, whilst that will work for hearing, it doesn't give her the ability to speak? Unless I've missed something
Many portable Bluetooth speakers also have a mic built in, so you can use them as a hands free device when paired with a mobile.
I have this:

I use it with a British radio app to listen to 6music and it works really well as a speakerphone, even interrupting and silencing anything I'm listening to. Very clear speaker and mic.
Weeksy, that one I linked to specifically says "Built-in microphone for hands-free calls and conference calling"!
As do several of the others they offer.
I suggested that one for the nice big single button, which can probably / possibly trigger voice dialling.
Sorry squire.
