A few years ago I had to line the interior of country house folly / temple that had been built in 1726 with fireproofing for a movie stunt. Very weirdly almost every interior measurement - the room dimensions but also the window reveals, door openings and so on all landed exactly on 1 meter increments.

I first heard this story in the late 1990s (because I remember where I was and who told it to me). I don't think there's a grain of truth at any step of it. It is amusing though.
In the UK it's only used informally now, like when describing a house with half an acre of land. Very few people actually know what that is but it sounds impressive!
The field that my archery club uses is half an acre, IIRC, it’s conveniently situated at the end of a track with one side against a wood, and the other side has a brook running along it, so it’s effectively the bit left over that’s just not worth trying to cultivate. Length-wise, it allows us to shoot out to about 100m, although that’s pushing your luck, because after that there’s a hedge followed by a lot of rough ground, so good luck finding any arrows that go beyond!
Actually, trying to find arrows in the bit that’s regularly mowed is a game of fun for all the family!
