[#5983216]

Bought a Miele Washing machine 6 months or so ago from Currys online at a really low price. Not quite sure what was going on with their pricing policy that day.

Unfortunately, my wife didn't push the washing fully in a week ago and the seal has torn slightly where a garment got stuck and ripped the seal. There is only a small weap but there is water collecting close to the innards. As such I need to change the seal. Clearly this isn't a warranty claim. Does anyone know if I can replace this myself using a genuine Miele part and keep my warranty? I have changed a previous Bosch seal. However finding instructions is proving problematic. Alternatively can I employ a Miele registered fixer without having to pay a call out fee? I am beginning to think that it may have been a bad choice.

Cheers

Andy

I did actually spend about 3 hours yesterday searching YouTube and the web but there is nothing specific for Miele seals, unless I am missing something. Your link only produced generic seal repairs and not particularly related Miele stuff.

I'd get Miele in to repair it. It probably won't cost that much and if you don't repair it properly your warranty could be toast.
They have their own dedicated man* in a van full of spares.

* may also be a woman (but probably not at the same time)

You could try to fix it with a dob of silicone sealant? Might not work, but could just as easily be one of those £3 repairs that lasts for years.

Sorry Andy I wasn't trying for video for your specific issue, it was more to just suggest its worth look round (though I sounds like you have...)

Why not give them a call? I've found them to be really helpful particularly when I had appliances go wrong at a couple of years old.

Ex Miele fan and will not buy any more of their products.

If the hole is only small a puncture repair patch may work? I had one that lasted for years or may help as a temporary measure?

they're all avoiding the crux of the matter, I suppose out of politeness; what are you going to do about your wife ?

Get a Miele engineer in. In my experience they have the very best consumer care at reasonable prices. For example, when we had a fault with our vacuum cleaner, they posted a box to return, refurbished it to new standard, with new tools etc and posted it back for a fixed fee of £69!

We've had an engineer back to service the tumble drier and he was kind enough to show me exactly what to do next time - which I did.

We've a Miele washing m/c and the only call to customer service has been to congratulate them on sure a fantastic machine. They were exceptionally helpful when I asked about height lifters for the feet and sent me a whole box of detergent as a freebie...
Best off talking to them IMO.

Do we share the same wife, or am I you?
Invested in Miele washer & 2 months in same thing happened. Ended up getting Miele engineer in. From memory it was approaching £150. Ouch!
Great machine, not so great wife.

Skinnysteal, many thanks. £150, I was expecting even more. The seals are £85 on e-spares! Does the callout charge cover the replacement labour of changing the seal?

Had exactly this with ours. Have had it for 5 or six years now, no problems other than the seal but it doesn't wash clothes any better than the Hotpoint it replaced or anything like that. Seal was £80 as you say, Miele wanted £120 to come and replace it. £200 for a door seal is taking the proverbial so I bought the seal direct from Miele and replaced it myself. That wasn't straight forward though as they don't make our model anymore and the seal they supplied wasn't exactly the same. Replacing it was a bit of a pain in the arse and then the seal kept peeling back from the rim as the fit wasn't quite right. I got round this with a bead of silicone between the rim and the seal (can't see this as there a big overlap), has been fine since but as I found our one year old pretty much inside the machine with just her legs hanging out yesterday I don't know how long this will last. Doubt I'd have another one all things considered although Lulu seems to like it.
