Everyone is trying so damn hard to be middle class and unique that it all just ends up being diluted chavvery.

We've spawned a generation who'll be condemned to repeatedly spell out their name to people over the phone.

My son's name is fairly easy to take the piss out of, but he likes it because it's a cool name and no-one else is called it.

come on then....what is it?

That list of top names is interesting....having a scan through, I see there were a number of girls named Havana! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

There are a few jokes there!

Babycentre says Lucas 4th, Luke 20th.

Ethan? Sheesh that's high up.

Noah, that's an interesting top name. Our friends have a son called Noah. We looked at Jewish names, then chose the last one in the alphabet 8)

Yahweh?
You've got to hope your kids do well but that's crazy.

We have Asian mates with a lad called Aryan, which does wind some people up a treat.

How high up is Alex? Out of 22 rugby kids (13/14 y.o) 5 of them are called Alex!
(not my son though)

We live in a village in the north east of England, the epicentre of racist tory middle England so I think the chances of being bullied cos of a name like maurice are fairly low compared to other areas I guess. everyone knows everyone. Genetic diversity is a bit low.

The wife has red hair too so there is a 50% chance of him being called "ginger (ging-ger)" throughout school anyway, regardless of the name.

You could of course have checked yourself, but I was curious enough about something I'm not sure if you missed there.

Alex is in 75th place on the list...

though the most obvious name to be abbreviated to Alex is in 22nd place (I note that there are also some boys called Alexandar - if you want to spend life having to correct people spelling your name wrong clearly you need parents who can't spell). Which makes me wonder why they don't abbreviate it to something else - there being an obvious - and quite cool - example currently on kids TV quite a lot and occasionally on adult TV too. I know what I'd do if I was 13.

My name must have been very popular in the 70's as there are six of us at work. All around the same age too. Once had to send an email to four Phillips / Philips from a Phillip. Don't like the name personally it's very boring and I don't even have a middle name I can use.

Took us ages to decide on our sons name. We finally settled on an old name that didn't appear in the most popular lists. Just appealed to us and really suits the little guy. Oddly enough we've come across his name twice since. Once in a movie and the other time was a world's strongest man contestant. His middle name is Hendrix due to my love of the musician, Mr's Funkmasters German heritage and her father being called Henry.

Maurice sounds okay. I know three older chaps with that name, so it does remind me of old people though.

If you are worried about your kids change your surname.
Its a bugger I reckon being up with the Y's on the reading list on the wall at school.
What ever, make sure the name is not too long and has absolutely no variations or you can bet they will be used.
Do not call a boy Jayden. In 23 years of teaching, every single one I have met has been a little ****
Try to predict the future and if your kid is going to grow up thick, shy or with a speech impediment avoid multi syllable names.

An update:
Baby arrived yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚
..bloody hell it's a boy!

Jimi Hendrix was playing on the radio singing 'hey joe' when the head popped out which I thought was cool.

Wife is carefully allowing me to agree with her choice of name. So there we have it: Maurice Joe Clark 7 lb 10 oz.
I'm already calling him mo-joe bless him.

Maurice Joe Clark 7 lb 10 oz.

7 lb 10 are funny middle names.

Congrats, mind.

(Is "Morris" not preferable to "Maurice"? I think I'd prefer it if it were my name.)

Morris is the English version but it reminds us too much of funny dancers and crap cars. They are at least almost pronounced the same. I do tend to say 'eece'opposed to 'iss'. The wife doesn't of course.

Was gonna post something nice about our Morris welcoming your Maurice to the world but after that last outburst..... SCREW YOU and your poncy French off spring nomenclature! Just kidding. :). Congratulations and names are now the least of your worries, strap yourself in!!!
Maurice Joe is a proper cool combination BTW.

As opposed to Maurice Gibb and all the Joker references earlier in the thread.

Maybe "Mo" is a better choice. But the horse has bolted hasn't it.

Congratulations op.

Nowt wrong with Maurice (spelt properly).

The thing with names is what's popular when they're born is often no longer popular when they hit their school years. My given name was apparently very popular when I was born. One wet behind the ears tv rodent was all it took to get it into full on piss taking territory.

Many moons ago I went out with a girl named Rhian (pronounced like Ian),after explaining the correct pronunciation until she was blue in the face people still called her Ree ann! So er, good luck with Morris and good luck with your baby boy.
