with lots of very hammed up 'I'm too young to die' stuff
and some plaintive 'but it was just a splinter' action as well.

My son put a garden fork through his boot and foot at the allotment when he was about 4.

Took him to children's hospital where was seen by a south African doctor.

'what have you done?'

'put a fork through my welly'

Now to a south African an 'i' and an 'e' can sound very similar, so with a wince asked my son to pull his trousers down so the wound could be inspected.

Once everyone understood there was a language barrier the foot was x-rayed and appropriate treatment administered

Get it treated before your foot falls off is my advice.

if it only hurts when you touch it, have you checked your finger just in case there is something sharp sticking out of it?

Just a thought, no need to say thanks.

toe still hurts... the magnesium sulphate did nothing.

had a christmas do last night... much anaesthetic alcohol administered. feel pretty rough this morning so the pain in my toe is still numbed - bigger shoes are helping too.

for gods sake man stop torturing us!

we need pictures to accurately diagnose the method and length of time of death...

pictures would shatter the illusion - it really doesn't look very impressive

it just looks like a slightly manky, blokes toe with a few gouge marks where an idiot has tried to slice it open with a penknife but bottled out of cutting anywhere deep enough to find the splinter.

For god sake shut up, that would spoil our fun.

<update>

I went to minor injuries at tewkesbury hospital on my way home... had about a 30 minute wait (on my own in the waiting room).

The nurse said that it doesn't look infected, but given that they can't see the splinter (if that is what it is), the risks of them opening it up and having a dig about outweigh the risks of leaving it in there.

so, I've got to put up with it and wait for a) infection and death, or b) my body to expel the foreign object at high speed across the room.

**prays for B**

Although what if there's a child's face on the other side of the room?

I was out getting pissed with the neighbours.

Toe is still attached and still very painful. Got a big red lump at the 'injury site' now, hopefully it isn't chlamydia or leprosy or anything like that.

Got to ride to work tomorrow because her indoors needs the car, guess this'll be the acid test as to whether I can man up and take the pain.

Update / Thread Resurrection:

I've been in pain with this bloody toe for about a month and a half now. It had dulled to the point where it wasn't hurting unless I prodded it, and I could walk and ride without too much pain if I was careful to keep my toe in the right position.

Last week it got a bit swollen, and I squeezed some pus out of it... thought I might finally get some relief, but no change and nothing came out.

Last night, I was having another prod at it, and I could feel something pointy near the surface. I changed tactic and scraped my nail across the 'entry point'... this bloody hurt, but i could feel i was touching something hard. I kept at it and the end of something shiny popped out.

I pulled on it, and to my amazement, this came out:

[img] [/img]

(not the 1p, the piece of wire).

NO WONDER IT HURT SO MUCH!!!! I@VE HAD A SODDING TENT POLE SKEWERING MY TOE!!!

I had been getting pain on the other side of my toe, which I had put down to my swollen toe rubbing, but it appears that the pain was because the kebab skewer in my toe was trying to force its way through the skin over there too!

I must have picked it up on my socks from the garage floor or something - I just assumed that it would be hawthorn because of what I was doing when the pain started.

Pain free today for the first time in ages.... amazing feeling!

Dave

I did! I've barely left the thing alone, I even attacked it with a penknife and couldn't find anything.

Unbelievable when I was pulling it out... it kept on coming!

The nurse at minor injuries said it wasn't worth giving it an x-ray, because it was probably wood (hawthorn) and wouldn't show up.

Would have made an interesting picture if they had though!

Sue them !!

I got the end of a needle embedded in my knee when I was a kid, when the Doc realised what it was I got flung in the back of an ambulance and carted off to the hospital for immediate surgery.

It can get in your bloodstream and kill you when it gets to your heart, they said.

(er this wasn't in the UK and we did have private medical insurance mind)
