Hi, we've got some long road trips lined up this year and thought we'd ease the pain for our 8, 5 and 2 year olds *some* of the time with in-car movies.
The in car dvd players seem fragile for what they cost. My lot already have a couple of Hudls between them, but I ve never put more on them than game apps. What's the easiest way to get films on! Don't really want to buy a lot new from ap store if I don't have to. Is it poss to rip DVDs into the pc, transfer to sd card and play them like that?
Any other easy ways? Cheers.

Also, check the dvds. Some come with a link to get you the digital version.

I've done this for my android tablet - I used Handbrake to get the DVD onto my PC and then just whack them on an SD card. Can't remember the format I used - whatever was recommended from a couple of 'how to use Handbrake' searches, I would imagine.
The films I have got round to ripping, take up anything from 800mb to 1.2Gb each.

Handbrake is great and may even have a profile for your android device.
Once compress you can bung the files on SD cards or if your device doesn't have a slot, use something like ES file explorer to tranfer them over
Excellent - all good advice thanks. I really didn't want to pay out to App Store for movies we already own on dvd. Don't think I'll be going down the 3rd party downloads route, but advice about ripping greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Also if you need more storage then get OTG usb sticks - they should allow you to stick all the films on there.
