It's fine, Putin was 'generous' enough to install some extra pipe work for just such an occasion I gather...

On Radio 4 today they were saying there were plenty of reserves.

But feel free to panic.

the scottish pipeline has a leak
I thought that was an oil pipeline. Do they produce gas from it too?

Gas is extracted from the crude oil at grangemouth refinery, 40% of the uks needs is supplied by this old pipe.

It would be utter chaos in hospitals and such like so I can't believe it would be "allowed" to get to that level.

I've made a shopping list for tomorrow and milk and bread are on it- does that count as panic? Can't help with the looting bit though, soz.

Gas fired power stations. You need to hope it's windy.

Come back to me when you've resorted to drinking out of the toilet.

Radio reports I heard were that the cracked pipe carried 40% of Uk gas production. But the UK produces 45% of gas consumed with the rest being imported. So the broken pipe effects around 18% of UK needs.

It’s a bit more complicated than that. Most of the oil producers also export gas but via different pipelines, trouble is that if you can’t export liquids then it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to export gas. This number of fields being offline creates significant additional difficulties that aren’t immediately apparent.

I do have to congratulate bp on their magnificent timing selling the pipeline as they did.

Strap a politician to every wind turbine?

There is gas in the (Crude) oil pipe I know this as I work at the refinery at the Grangemouth end. (It is an oil pipe but gas is naturally entrained in crude oil which is separated at Grangemouth).

Yes it contains some gas too. Everyone is mixing up various stats.

I did wonder briefly if INEOS were just testing flexing their muscle a bit, they've previously proved the have the government by the short and curlies after all... if not then yes BP must be breathing a sigh of relief.

It's a shame most infrastructure isn't on these online maps, it's fascinating what's out there https://www.ogauthority.co.uk/data-centre/interactive-maps-and-tools/
