Since it is independant record shop weekend just now with all the relevant publicity on radio and national press for these shops, does anyone else think it would be a good idea to do something similar for LBS?
It might just get a few folk off their mouses and back into local shops which might just mean a couple stay in business?

I have, spent £100 in the local independent record shop yesterday 🙂 Local being a relative term, since it's 25 miles away...

It's simple economics; if the LBS's can't compete with the internet retailers for price, then they need to provide a unique service that the webbies can't. Cheaper servicing? Bike hire? Maintenance training classes? Cycle clubs?

I'd really like to see bike shops carry second hand stuff. They used to. I recently wanted a fork for an old hack I was doing up. I don't want to pay £40 or so for a new one; the bike's not worth that expense. I only found one shop that carries any old second hand bits. Most shops just destroy and discard any serviceable bits, as apparently selling s/h stuff affects sales of new stuff too much. How about, you have a new bit fitted, and they give you a discount on the old part, as long as it's ok.

I think organised s/h bike sales would do well in many larger cities at least.

If a business can't adapt and evolve, then it will go under. That's life in a Capitalist World...
