If fifa actually want to stop this sort thing - then surely the only possible answer is to kick out Napoli from the competition & ban them for 3 years at least.
Thoughts?
Agree, but it won't happen. As far as UEFA seems to think, only teams from the UK can have crowd problems requiring expulsion. The serbs & croats were at it the other day, quite bad crowd violence in the stadium.
I think Lanesra has maybe moved back to his ancestral home and joined the Ultras?
If it was gonna happen, it would have happened years ago when Kevin Speight was stabbed to death in Turkey.
Problem is, this din't happen at the ground, so UEFA are powerless to act.
The Italian authorities need to do a lot more to stamp out the 'Ultras' hooligan element that follow many Italian clubs, like British football has. Naples is a bit of a crazy city mind, and historically has been a haven for crime. The Camorra, the Neapolitan Mafia are notorious, and until quite recently controlled many aspects of city life there.
If you think these stabbings are bad (I'm not saying they're not, but to put things into perspective), what goes on every weekend in Italy at matches makes even Millwall fans look well-behaved.
In 2001, fans threw a motor-scooter off the top level of the San Siro stadium, fortunately missing supporters underneath.
I've long thought that UEFA should ban all Italian clubs from European competition, until the Italian FA can assure them that their game is safe(r) from hooliganism. As a Liverpool fan, I've always thought it unfair that Liverpool and all other English clubs suffered a lengthy ban in the wake of the Heysel tragedy. Ordinary decent fans, and clubs, suffered because of a number of factors including a mindless hooligan element (on both sides). Yet Italian clubs seem to be immune to such action. In 2007, Italian riot police laid into Man U fans in Rome, following the provocation of the Man U fans by Roma Hooligans. The police took no action against the provocateurs. When Man U subsequently destroyed Roma 7-1 on the pitch at Old Trafford, I cheered. And I hate Man U...
I hope Liverpool can forget being shit for one night, and stuff Napoli. Then stuff them again when they come to Anfield. Keep the conflict within the rules, and on the pitch.
But bear in mind this is a small minority of hooligans, not everyone who supports Napoli. It's a shame their image has ben tarnished like this. And I hope and prayLiverpool fans will show dignity, and not react to this. Sady, I fear more blood may be spilled. ๐

Unless it happens inside or directly outside the ground then I don't think you can make Napoli FC liable.
the reason english clubs were banned from european competition was because the FA and the PM supported UEFA's action. Something had to happen after repeated rioting in European cities and the Heysel Stadium disaster was the straw that broke the camels back.
Now UEFA are more interested in our clubs spending rather than racism and hooliganism, for which they now threaten to ban english clubs from the champions league for.
Is it the Ultras who stab you in the bottom? Nasty bizznizz.

UEFA should make them liable - it's a game of football. Fans should be able to travel safely to away games, if someone gets stabbed as part of a mugging etc.. you can put it down as bad luck & that it could happen to any tourist. When fans are actively seeking out other fans then it's the clubs/UEFA's responsibility IMHO

I use to go to Naples every other week, did it for three years, its a shit-hole.
Even the 'tourist' areas are dangerous after dark; Spanish City/Quarter...
its got nothing to do with football i bet theres stabbings in all the major european cities everyday of the week.
Erm, I think these attacks are linked to football hooliganism.
Perhaps tonight's result was the best one in terms of hopefully neither set of fans will be too worked up. Shit game though. Ryan Babel is the biggest waste of money since Harry Kewel if you ask me. Mind you, Voronin was worse than shit.
As hard as these ultras seem to think they are, they never seem to put in an appearance on the away leg.
Either they can't afford the flights or they're just happier stabbing people in the bum on home soil and then legging it.
Some of the Roma ones give it large at Old Trafford in 2007. Got spanked by GM Babylon though. But you're right; they are cowardly scum who can only act in large numbers on their own 'turf'. ****s.
Naples is rough. Ive got a couple of mates that were born/grew up there and they tell storys that I would of struggled to believe true of a developed European nation. I dont mean hoodlum with guns, turf wars, and racketeering.
Id recommend 'Gomorrah' by Roberto Saviano for an eye opening read, not least for the insight into the fake goods market, or what really happens to European industrial waste.
'the dark heart of italy' by Tobias Jones has a chapter on football. Just what brazen and barely disguised/vehemently denied skulduggery goes on between refs, managers and sponsors is a huge eye-opener. Not excusing violence, but no suprise that the fans are pissed off and nasty.
The Ultras are extremely influential and often have a very close relationship with the clubs in Italy - not sure about Napoli specifically. They can't afford to piss them off.
Naples is a pretty scary place, football or not.
Seen the film version of Gomorrah, it's a proper shithole. But Naples did invent the pizza out of poverty, so it's not all bad. Nothing will be done as if it's outside the ground you can't definitively tie it to football, so UEFA will bury their heads in the sand once again even though everyone knows what is happening. Go Michel.
Piazza Garibaldi isn't somewhere I'd hang about after dark for too long, it's pretty shady in the day. Spent a week in Naples last year and went there without really knowing much about the place, proper shock at first. Kind of got used to the it after a couple of days but it didn't feel like a European city at all.
Amazing street food though, awesome cake! Espresso at Cafe Mexico...quite fancied going back for a couple of days lately.
Went to an LFC game in Rome few years back. Quite entertaining with the level of abuse the buses got on the way into the stadium. We were behind big perspex 'walls' and one Roma fan legged it across the police cordon and came right up to the LFC fans waving a huge flag, giving it the verbals and gesticulating like only a Roman can...he was somewhat downhearted when 3000 LFC fans turned and applauded him!! Off he trudged back to his mates! When the LFC fans didn't 'bite' to the bottle throwing etc, the Roma fans just started beating the cra* out of each other. We got locked into the stadium until 1am, the redeeming feature being a full showing of LFC stuffing MUFC in the league...those were the days...
I think 7 LFC fans got stabbed in the arse on the way to the stadium. To be honest, some of the behaviour of the LFC fans was shocking during the day. The Trevi Fountain area had been claimed as a meeting point and lots of tourists were being pushed in etc.
Whats with the arse stabbing?
hree arrestedThe other four were injured when they were attacked by a group of 20 to 30 men.
Gary Brown, 50, from Hertfordshire, and his son Adam, 17, received a knife injury and bruising respectively.
funny turn of phrase
balloon chasing always ends in tears.

any time, day or night. I was the 'mugging deterrent' for my mates when I lived in Naples. Stabbings happen all the time there - worse when the local kids have the chance to increase their violence/street cred quota on people who aren't connected to another violent local family.
Whats with the arse stabbing?
I think, from barely remembered chapters of Midnight Cowboy perhaps, that is has something to do with what you can and cannot be charged with if caught - it's a less serious crime than, say, stabbing someone in the torso.

If they get it right, little chance of killing someone, however it is embarrassing for the stabbed person.
