I’ve been listening to Dr. Hannah Fry’s codebreaker radio programme about number stations, quite intriguing! So using University of Twente online radio tuner I’ve just found my first number station (plus many more stations transmitting morse and possibly other coded transmissions) it’s great that this format of sending message to your overseas operators is still used

Any other wannabe spooks on here?

You have to wonder if it really is still used or whether its a red herring - given that we all have access to end to end encryption - are the number stations just a means of tying up you're opposite number's time trying to crack and decode nonsense?

From that point of view even if you're sure its nonsense you can't ignore it just in case its not.

Although I like this YouTube comment

This signal is from Clown Headquarters giving specific coordinates on where Children's birthday parties are being held. If followed by a high note and a low note, it means there will be no survivors at the party.

Makes you think

They discussed its use in the programme, it requires such low tech, readily available and reliable equipment (just a shortwave radio) that if caught they wouldn’t arouse suspicion

I thought you meant either the cheese or one of the many pubs with that name.
Ah well....

Boards of Canada used this concept to do the coolest album launch of all time. I went to Avalanche the day before the one was found there
