This thread is a perfect example of how religion causes more bad than good

It's nothing of the sort. It's just another example of religion being a powerful force in uniting the STW brethren in feeling superior to some out group.

What amazes me is that people who believe there is a god believe he would be petty enough to care about the lights in the hall. Seriously he's supposed to be omnipotent, the creator of everthing, the supreme being, he will probably understand.

Is there a reason why I should feel the need to respect views which I consider to be massively outdated superstitious nonsense, especially when they are being imposed on others, and in this case are opposing a measure to save energy and money.

They have a perfectly valid right to believe it, just the same as I have a right to think it's nonsense.

Jewish Law

This was an ace series of documentaries on C4 a couple of years ago about members of the ultra-orthodox communiy in Munchester. Fair to say that of the religions of the book the ultra orthodox Jews take some beating for the intricacy of their laws, some of which quite frankly were utterly barmy, a point conceded by some of those who took part in the doc.

They could buy a pet rat and shove it into the hallway whenever they wanted to go out.

Or climb out the window.

No, and I said no such thing. This thread is just not

a perfect example of how religion causes more bad than good

or even an example of religion doing anything, this thread is an example of a bunch of STWers gathering round to feel smugly superior to another group of people in an environment of mutually supportive s****ing.

While you instead show your smug superiority by apparently taking some kind of moral high ground without actually offering any of your own views? ๐Ÿ˜‰

No, I've given my view above, twice. And I think moral superiority is a good thing.

Isn't the act of opening the door "work" though? Closing one would be "constructing a wall" so really they shouldn't be going into the hall on the sabbath anyway.

Anyhoo - on these grounds I have decided to start my own religion that everyone should join. I believe that God said "when you go into a bank or shop they should give you all the cash available". Once we establish then the providers of goods and services will have to comply with this belief in order not to discriminate against us.

I also believe that it is a sin, cos God told me so, to pay any form of tax.

So... whos in?

Not really, you've offered no comment on the actual story, you've just slagged off everyone elses opinion - hardly very constructive.

And I think moral superiority is a good thing.

Wow you are taking it to a whole new level of smugness.

Rob, I suspect you will get a tax break on that as well.
