Reflect back what you found fun mtb-ing.
I retired early because I couldn't get out with the guys often enough.
It was the group banter, shared experiences.
Some may like the solo reflective time away.
Riding good single track is like good sex, nothing else on your mind else you fall off the flow and rhythm.
If you give up due to time, or aches or other life pressures, then time to RESET your life.
Draw a happy circle with sectors covering you, family, work, health, etc
See where your imbalance is.
If skewed then make sure you work St evening it out.
It's not about replacing mtb. It's about what to to next that's fun.
Like retiring from work.
Look for positives. Not next episode of downloaded box sets.
Fresh air, challenges. Banter with others,
Get a smile on your face, when you remember the ride
The group I rode with kind of fragmented and died sadly, I struggle to get motivated to ride or train on my own (i like the social side) and pressure from family with young kids etc just meant more and more guilt trips for ever shorter rides.
I gave up riding in the end because theres only so much s**t i can cope with on a daily / weekly basis.
Changed jobs so lost my cycle commute, and just lost my Mojo for lots of stuff.
Spent 18months working regularly in the gym which helped, but again the group drifted off onto other things.
had some health issues and mental health state wasnt great as a result so just stopped doing stuff.
Bought a canoe which I love, being surrounded by some great places to explore.
Got a trackday Caterham which gives me the adrenaline rush too.
Recently started feeling physically better and ready to start doing stuff again.
Dragged my Windsurfing kit out this weekend for the first time in 10-12 years and can see me doing more of that.
But i do need to get the bikes out again and get back into it, i know once i start, the motivation will come having now had a 2-3 year break from it.

NOpe – its a shoulder injury. Ridden hardtails for 40+ years offroad
my osteopath has bween really good fixing up my shoulder, whereas the ‘specialist’ physio I went to through Bupa was a complete waste of time 🙂
more usefully, I find my macebell brilliant for the shoulders, as does the musco-skeletal therapist that has been looking at my knee problem as it’s fixed his shoulder problems and also some of his patients he has recommended it too. Worth a look at.
Thats two mistakes and waste of money. BUpa and osteopths. They must love you giving away your money for nothing.
I have exemplary treatment from NHS phsios for this and am slowly working my way thru the system. For free. Top experts, no money taking charletans. Macebell would turn my medium injury into a major one in two swings.
And yes I know you were trolling.
55 Still ride MTB,gone from 3 rides a week to 3 times a month,DH once a week
Do a bit trail running,5km keeps a basic fitness, love it.
Climbing and bouldering, did my first outside sports climb this month, plan is to do more of this, wish i'd started earlier, awesome sport.
Also do a bit of gold panning, hard work but very enjoyable, helps when the river is only 5 mind away.
Thinking about doing an intro in to kite surfing this winter if i manage to get some spare time.
