Moyes is neither walking the walk, nor perhaps more importantly, talking the talk.

It's harsh to make comparisons, but, Fergie would have handled this decline VERY differently. The press would have been reminded how huge United are and how important it is to pull on the red shirt, and nothing less than the best would be expected and demanded from the players.

Personally, I feel that Fergie jumped when he saw the decline in this squad coming, I also think Moyes was doomed the moment he sacked ALL of the training staff and brought his cronies with him.

I thought Moyes deserved time, everyone keeps mentioning how Fergie turned it around after 4 years, but that's presuming Moyes is a Fergie in the making. His lack of previous success and seeming lack of tactical savvy strongly suggest otherwise.

Rogers has done a great job with the bin dippers and is just the sort of strong home grown character United should have gone for. Now I feel their best bet is to cut their losses and sign Van Gaal or Klop (whatever he's called). They desperately need an experienced manager who will command respect from the players.

I'm one of those rare United fans whom has no problem with this decline, I've enjoyed every moment of the last 20 years of unparalleled success and realise that everything is cyclical. You have to taste the bitter to enjoy the sweet, hence why the rest of the world is currently revelling so much in the current United shambles, they've been bitter for an entire generation!
Armed with the success and history I've witnessed I could genuinely never see them win the league again and still die happy.
As long as the same goes for the rat munchers down the road.

right so you can make snidey shitty posts about a team you dont support but not a fairly reasonable one with a shitty snidey word in it for the teams you dont support...is that the rule then ?

Neither fills me with joy tbh....footie fans and their "banter" eh

Reasonable game so far and at least they look like a team

A stay of execution, but a nice result for a change.

I'm off to rob some wheels.

Good result but that's all it was. Personally I think the only side we have a chance against in the next round is PSG.

As for the PL, well, I take only a sliver of belief and conviction into Saturday's game.

Better performance/result because he wasn't able to shoehorn Mata into the side with Rooney and RVP as well? Be interesting to see who they get, it may not be pretty but they may well go and win it, like Chelsea did against the odds. Could be a long 180 mins against barca, both Madrid sides, bayern and psg though 🙂

If they do win it and finish outside the top 4 I think they get into it again as winners - does this mean they take the place of the team finishing 4th or will 5 teams get in?

Sweet - he stays in his job for a while longer. 🙂

Good result for United but let's not get carried away:

Until Olympiakos triumphed in Athens on Feb. 25, United had won all four of the previous matches between the clubs.

They have also won all five matches they have played against Greek clubs at home while Olympiakos have lost all 11 of the matches they have played in England.

Yes Grum. He does, like Rogers did last year.

I really hope Kleenex has upped their production to service all the ABUs over recent months. You'll all have to resort to old socks if they haven't.

RVP last night gave the clearest indication yet that he wants to leave Utd.

Scoring 3 goals with the world watching is a come & get me plea, proving he still can cut it at almost the highest lever.

Man U win the CL on their form? Give over.

For the next few seasons+ Man U will be the Arsenal of most recent seasons of the league. A v.good side but never quite making it to the title.

Thanks for your knowledgable input, as ever Hora. When we've gone 9 seasons without winning owt, I'll buy you a pint 😀

Stranger things have happened. Liverpool coming back from 3-0 down to win it springs to mind. I don't think anyone gave us a prayer of being in the quarter finals after the performance in the first leg. And it actually seems like that lack of expectation (and obvious ABU gloating) has worked quite well. If you're still in it, then it helps. City were being touted as potential winners, and where are they?

It was just great to see a United side looking like they really wanted it! Summed up by this head case. Hats off to him for staying on, and playing his socks off after receiving this in the first 10 minutes….

Its that kind of attitude thats been sadly AWOL this season. Nice to see Rooney and VP look like they'd actually met each other before too

As soon as you stop reading the newspapers, you can enjoy the season for what it is. I was happy to see City put up a decent fight at the Nou Camp, and I read somewhere that it was the 15th anniversary of us losing at home to Oldham when we were in League 2.

When Utd have sunk that low, and come back again, some of their fans may have a better appreciation of what a disaster it is to be 7th in the PL with a Champions League quarter final coming up.

It's just a long drawn out car crash in slo-mo, that result is the 'almost saved it moment' that gives you hope.
Once sacked the genius of Moyes will never be seen in English football again. This tragicomedy is running at half speed for your viewing pleasure (unless you live in parts of Manchester or Surrey)

It's a long shot, but Liverpool won the CL in 2004/05 and finished 5th in the premiership that year with 58 points. Man U are currently sitting in 7th with 48 points, so it's not impossible that a team with rotten domestic form could win it, though having watched Real the other night, and the other remaining teams being very strong, it is unlikely though history shows it's not impossible.

Good God...one win against a second rate team from Greece and some are suggesting winning the CL.....I think not!

For the next few seasons+ Man U will be the Arsenal of most recent seasons of the league. A v.good side but never quite making it to the title.

As for that comment....ahem excuse me, don't have a go at Arsenal, we've been building Stadia, balancing books and still qualifying for the CL every season....better than 88 other teams in the league who don't have massive financial backing, buying their trophys for them. I think th eteam you should now compare yourselves with are Spurs! 😮

Thats the manager who's just got a lacklustre mid-table side into a champions league quarter final? And built the squad, with comparably very little money, thats presently sat 6th in the table? No, you're right. I can't see anyone wanting his services. There are so many candidates doing so much better, aren't there?

Dear god! Theres been some crap spouted on this thread by the haterz, but thats topped the lot, I think. Give yourself a round of applause. 😆

Thats right, a squad thats been the underdog for seasons and only just managed to win the league title last year against Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal.

thats presently sat 6th in the table?

7th and almost 20points off the leaders.

The 4th place team has two games in hand over you and 12points above so you never know..you could qualify for Europe next year yet 😆

Haters? I don't hate Barcelona or Vettel, people just want to see different teams turning up sometimes.

Every Utd fan's favourite commentator put it succinctly this morning..."It was good, but not great." Olympiakos were pretty poor, their keeper went awol quite a few times during the game. They were most likely (IMO) the worst side left in the last 16. Nonetheless, after the greek tragedy, beating them 3-0 to overturn a 2-0 deficit is still a big achievement after being humiliated by your most hated opponents at home three or four days previous.

Going back to Liverpool's achievement in 04/05, they had a "not-bad" side, underachieving but (stay with me here) had a manager with European experience that could mastermind European victories over two legs. Of course, he couldn't understand (what Fergie and Wenger both knew only too well) that in a league, you get more for one win than two draws. The other European sides had less quality than that of the existing Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern and even PSG sides and could still be fazed by the English speed up the wing and crossing games. Liverpool were incredibly lucky quite a few times in that competition, not least in the final where but for a short period after half time, they were completely outclassed by Milan for the other 110 minutes of the game. So while I realise Rafa turned into a figure of fun for Utd fans, that victory was his achievement more than anybody else's. Every year Liverpool played in the UCL with him as manager, they over-achieved compared to their increasingly dismal performances in the league. I really don't think Moyes has the tactical nous or experience to beat the quality left in the UCL - but who knows? For periods of last night's game, Utd still looked a bit clueless in midfield and allowed Olympiakos to pressurise them - and but for some terrible play from Campbell, may well have conceded.

Will Utd win the UCL this season? I'd say not a chance. Can they win it? Of course; they're in the hat on Friday. Has Agent Moyes any other option other than saying they can win it? Of course he doesn't.

Hora - What on earth are you blathering on about? Vettel? Barcelona?

has the brain/keyboard dislocation thing happened again?

you clearly don't even know which team I'm talking about. 6th in the table? I was referring to Everton. The squad Moyes built. Thats where he came from. Did you not know? Moyes hasn't built the United squad. That was the other Scottish Fella. Do you remember him? Big red nose? Liked to shout at the fourth official? Won a couple of things? No……?

Perhaps its best to stay away from subjects you know eff all about. Though that would of course limit you to the ones about serial frame swapping and warranty claims on forks 🙄

Edit: Bravissimo - I'd say that the fat Spanish Waiter owes a lot to Stevie G for the Champions league results. He was immense in that Milan game. He's exactly who you want as your captain in the middle of the pitch, when… lets be honest… you were getting absolutely thumped! . Like a Keane or Cantona. A massive influence that galvanises a team. He did it again on Sunday. He always does. The ****! 😀

What a desperate comparison...

Rogers took over a 7th Place finish & we have improved ever since.

Moyes has taken over the champions, spent £65m & you know the rest.

The main reason Utd are still in the champions league is because they haven't faced a top side, unlike City & Arsenal who have both faced at least 2 top sides.

I just hope this win doesn't undermine Utd's chances of getting into the Europa league next season and starting the qualifiers in July. 😆
