BU,fowey was my home port!! up until i moved Deeper west a few years back! decided the hour racing of the gaunlet from West to south coast after work for an hour and halfs sailing in the eve's weas geting a bit much! falmouths my closest now at 20mins to 1/2hour straight across the county (north to south coast), spent prolly best part of 16 years racing from there, Lots of great sails!! Coming out the harbour in the 1/4 tonner,turning left, popping the kite, hitting the plane and not slowing till we had to drop it to get into plymouth! SW 5-6, Awesome!
is also nice to get a good F3 sea breeze on summer days!! and had some Silly blasts Out the bay in the winter series! (is around St.A bay brother and i used toi race the yachts in the 5oh when they kept the dingheys in 'for the spectators!!')
loving the sound of the delivery!! especially the extra crew!!
Carbon - yep, Full Pelt 10. My pit girl sailed on her a fair bit, so they rafted on the outside of our mothership at Cork a few years back. Awesome boat. Got to speak to Jo a bit - thoroughly nice man as well as a stellar designer. I'm guessing you probably know the guys on that boat, from some of the stuff you posted earlier. 😀

Timmo - I'm jealous. Was that your compo or wooden 505 in the pics earlier? looks like a bundle of fun. We sprogged back in April, so my racing has been heavily curtailed, but I did get out for a day at Dartmouth this year. Sailing down West full time must be ace.

BU- Yeah the old 5Oh was a composite one! So much character compared to the new one! (still have the old one on pops patio lol! brother bought it when at school lol! so seemed wrong to get rid of it!! been in the family so long!!!) was showing signs of age though, but still didnt hang about!! the newer one's So much stiffer and more responsive, Such good boats to saiL!!!

The X35 is a lovely boat although a little 'trippy'. I did mainsheet on one (Nexus) for a couple of years - bit of a bandit in the light stuff.
Shark - cool. I was on Swallow, raced out of RSrnYC. We had some pretty mixed results, but won JOG. The boat had to go, unfortunately. Somewhere in Poland now. I was in the process of retiring from the foredeck and becoming an Aft Head, so was sailing pretty much every role...
I grew up in a family that sailed, I 'kin hated every minute of it. 🙁

Reverse bows look great on a catamaran.. not sure on a mega-yacht.

DId a lot of Wayfarer sailing including my pre-entry assessment back in the day as well as toppers, lasers and raced an Enterprise with my mate on weekends at Littleton but we got bored quickly and would often cross the line backwards or do a MOB drill mid-race. Not sure what the old boys in their Solos thought of us 😉

owenfackrell - how big is your refurb project? i recently bought a miracle but have only had it out a couple of times. still trying to figure out if something is missing for rigging the outhaul, dont suppose you have any pics?
It is a full strip down of the paint and varnish and a couple of minor repairs. So one in her past used a thick slight red varnish on the deck and cockpit which made her very dark and hid the beauty of the wood so I have been stripping it off and it's defiantly a slow process. I do have some picks if you drop me an email I can send you a couple that may help.

Indeed. Every time I've been back it's become more and more grotty. There's not even a decent chandlery anywhere in town any more. 🙁

a few corkers in falmouth for a nose! always used to be a great used bits chandlery in penryn too, like an aladins cave!
Recently got back into dinghy sailing with the kids in a Pico (go to re-start somewhere!) after a 20 year lay-off. Grew up in Yarmouth so mostly Scows & "X"s. Did have a part share in a National 12 but I think it rotted away one winter while each of us thought the other was looking after it :o/
salcombe boatstore is alreet 🙂 and Sailing did lend us an outboard for the weekend for free because the 1st broke down.... I dont mind salcombe, but it was much better as a town 5 years ago.
