I've been trying to learn Spanish for a while now, any recommendations for DVD's, CD's, on-line courses etc etc

Buy the Guardian this week.
Evening class was pretty good for me, though I never had time to do the homework and had to give it up when we had a baby.
Try and arrange a lunch break once a week where you meet up with a Spanish speaker who wants to learn English.

Is a good quick podcast you carry around. The Mark and Kara lessons are easy to listen to and so make learning easier. The basic shows are free too.
Night school is good. There are lots of interactive DVD ROM type applications. Nothing like spending a few weeks out in Spain, somewhere where they don't speak English.
The Michael Thomas cds are good and fairly cheap, I'd supplement them with some kids books and audiobooks. Buy adult comics and magazines (steady!) where the picture give you a clue what's going on as well.
Set your satnav/phone etc to spanish, listen to spanish music and watch spanish language films with the spanish subtitles on - you'll understand a lot more than you'd think!
If you can't immerse yourself in the language in Spain then do it here as best you can...
Mrs & I did a couple of terms at beginners evening classes, and then practiced on each other - e.g. one has to speak spanish all evening. Do the homework.
Thanks for all the advice - I've been watching channel 795 on sky recently to try and get used to the spanish language. This morning was a bit grim, they have been broadcasting from the festival of San Firmin in Pamplona (where the bulls run through the streets intermingled with thousands of runners ) and this morning we saw in glorious slo mo technicolour a load of the runners get trampled & gored by the bulls, one has since died! But the strange thing was they kept showing repeats of the goring, and from different angles like they would show a foul in football. Seemed a bit odd to me! But that Espana!

That reminds me of another good resource. The Spanish sports papers like Marca are available online. As you would expect, they're very futbol based but if you're interested in it, then it's a very good learning tool.
You'll find it pretty easy to make friends in Spain if you can talk about football, just don't get involved in any Madrid/Barca type arguments ๐
