Replaced a couple of dimmer switches in the house with LED specific dinners from screwfix this weekend.

The wife ordered these: https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-2-gang-2-way-led-dimmer-switch-polished-chrome/22282

I’ve fitted them and the dimmable led bulbs are buzzing like crazy, even on full blast.

I’ve re read the spec and it seems this is a leading edge dimmer? I thought all LED dimmers were trailing edge? Why would you sell a dimmer specifically marketed for LED’s with only a leading edge setting ?

Or am I confused?

Are the bulbs themselves dimmable? From past experience some that claim to be dimmable are still a pain in the arse. Had issues with LAP bulbs and switched to Philips which have been bomb proof for years.

Varilight v pro dimmers work well and can be changed between modes to suit different bulb types.

ok... will order another bulb and see what happens then. I still wonder about the trailing edge thing... but will give it a go.

My experience is that most LEDs have an intense dislike of leading edge dimmers unless there's also a halogen load on it as well. Suggest the Varilight V-Pro dimmers instead, which can do both leading and trailing edge along with what I think is a weird (but effective) hybrid of the two.

I went for the Varilight jobs. Fixed my buzzing problem.
