Looking for a holiday for next week, ideally greek islands or similar. Anyone know of any last minute or cancellation holiday websites? google just returns normal holiday sites claiming to do last minute deals which seem quite expensive to me

Sign up to all the shopping deal websites (like hotukdeals) and do searches/get alerts for holidays

High St travel agents can be good for this. They usually favour local airports, too

Ten years back the Net brought us cheap last minute deals. The Net then brought us comparison sites that tax all the companies they list. The result is that holidays now cost more, real deals are thin on the ground and traditional providers are struggling. Between paying Google to be at the top of the page and commission to the Net brokers the providers pay 25% of what you pay for their Net presence.

As for all those Net reviews, they're like the reviews for some (but not all - there are some good, honest people doing a great job in Spain) of those Spanish based MTB companies, written by the same person who makes the same grammatical errors in every post. Google sentences from a hotel review and you'll probably get a series of Google hits for other hotels the professional review writer has written for. Negative reviews will be eliminated by the professionals employed to monitor the firm's Net presence, Brant explained this was why an STW member's review had gone from the site of the company he used to work for.

It's just an expensive mess, drop into your local travel agent.

That holiday pirates has some great stuff! Can't leave till the 17th though and the mrs only has 7 days / 6 nights off work and they all seem to be 7 nights. Will keep an eye on it and pop into a travel agent in the week. Sure we'll find something.
Cheers!
