Hi, I am looking at a couple of dell laptops, and cant decide between an i5 with separate graphics, or go with the i7 with integrated graphics and touch screen. Ram and hdd are the same, both 17.3" screen. Only other difference is the wireless card, but seeing as it will mainly be used at home where I only tend to get about 3mbps download anyway, this isn't a real issue. The i5 is more in my budget, but i could stretch the extra for the i7. Is it really worth the extra for the i7?

Thats what I think, it is mainly the extra money for the i7 over the i5. I won't really need the power from an i7 90% of the time, when just browsing the net or watching iPlayer etc. But I occasionally use some pretty CPU intensive software, which I manage on an i5 at work OK, but the extra power would be nice.

Extra graphics for games.

Internal cpu graphics on the i3/5/7 good for old games but plays HD no problems.

I use my laptop for business or movies/media on internal games.

I have a ps4 for games which I never have time for.

Just checked with my daughter: she says she uses the touch screen a lot, more than she thought she would. (Windows 8.1)

I'd get the touch screen model.

Which one has the best quality case? Which one is screwed together best? If you use your laptop regularly away form your desk at home this stuff will make more of a difference than the processor.

Their is not a massive difference between an i5 and an i7, but it really depends what your doing on it to make the choice. If you just really use your laptop for basic things like browsing the web/emailing ETC.. then just go with the I5. You will only only notice a noticeable difference when you are using lots of CPU power. If you get the i5 you can always increase the memory or install an SSD which will make a lot more difference overall than a small amount of processing power will. My macbook is an i5 and I use it for demanding tasks and it copes great. Only upgrade is I increased the memory to 16GB .

The i7 only has a max memory of 8gb, where as the i5 can take up to 16.

I have been checking the outlet, but there is very rarely a 17" i5/i7 come up.
