Will this effect access rights in the future?
Access to the unreasonably priced carparks?
Even if it did, would anyone pay any attention?
If you avoid the usual handful of honey pots, i assume you wont notice much difference. Coach parties don't have enough time to get up the big hills ๐
Given that they have been working towards this since the mid-1980s, it's a bit surprising to find that as a title, it's right up there with 'city of culture' in terms of meaninglessness.
It just seems to be considered something to attract even more tourism to the area..
I can see it simply making the place even more of a theme park, rather than working countryside. I pity anyone wanting to wrk there in anything other than the tourism industry.

heritage site for what?
sheep?
Are there any detrimental consequences of this for the general public or more selfishly for MTBers?
Expect to hear a few morons moan 'You can't ride here it's a Unesco World Heritage Site!' to which the reply should be 'So is Liverpool FFS, get a grip.'
Does the WHS signify planning implications ?
Does the WHS signify planning implications ?
Although I'm not sure sky scrapers in Ambleside are about to happen anytime soon.
No direct impact on planning but to keep WHS the park will have to demonstrate that they aren't materially impacting the cultural, scenic, whatever, reasons they gained WHS in the first place. So if it's fine to do something now (within reason) then it will continue to be so.
I've just read George Monbiot's views on this. [Spoiler: He's not keen]
George sounding a bit overwrought there, even by his standards.
Feel sorry for the 18 million people who visit the Lakes each year and love the place beyond words. If only they would heed George's words and lift the veil to see the ecological desert before their eyes.
