my most amusing one (although was not KwitFit), was getting billed 15 minutes of labour charge for headlight "realignment", with a fail noted.
2 weeks after being billed 15 minutes for headlight "realignment" as part of much other work being done (faulty earth, and consumption of headlight bulbs at an abnormal rate).
I didn't pay twice.
the least amusing was getting pulled by the cops the day after the MOT with a light out. 🙄 fiver at halfords, and offloaded that car soon after, and will never ever buy a peugeot ever again.
Halfrods had my A Class in for an MOT (emergency I forgot the dates), turned out the starter motor packed in whilst they had it and asked for £900 to fix it. I said no and asked they put the car back to the condition it came into the garage. I called the AA before any arguments ensued and the AA turned up, got the car started by starter motor. AA man stood in front of shocked Halfrods mechanic and said, I pluged the lead back in you too off son.
Oh how we laughed at the Halfrod mechanic and I then complained to the manager who started to sweat. I got solicitors involved because clearly they were trying to rip me off... I got an apology and vouchers for £500 to use in store.
Thing with A Classe's (If you ever get one) is that the stater motor sits behind the engine in a compartment under the split floor. It does need the engine taking out and Merc charge £1200 for doing the work but invariably they do it for free cos' it's an inherant fault with the car.
Not just kwik-fits though. I stopped using our local garage after putting both our cars through them one year. Both MOTs gave rise to bulbs/pads/discs/tyres even though I checked them before hand. They also flatted my battery during one MOT by leaving the radio on. I picked the car up com them after they had closed and of course it wouldn't start. Made them put in a new battery FoC. Idiots!
If it is a scam, its not a very good one if it only gets them £10 a go and it may not even get them that if you notice it on the way home...

Here's the solution. Scammers will disappear eventually once we have the choice not to use them.
I agree its not a very good scam.
But enough googling tells me that this isn't an isolated incident with kwickfit. The common theme seems to be that they seem to introduce small faults that the less suspecting person would just get fixed there and then.
I have filled in their complaints form this morning and am awaiting a response.
A number of years ago whilst on holiday, thought I heard a brake rubbing, took it in the disc was tarnished through heat. Took it to Crap Fit as I didn't know area, they inspected it replaced the pads and said they couldn't find anything wrong. A couple of days later on way back from holiday, could hear a terrible squealing, got it home and to the dealer, to find the caliper had seized on. Will never use the useless muppets again!
I think the guys get bonus/comission the more parts they sell, hence all these horror stories, just greedy mechanics 😀
I had a flat tyre, quite a new tyre at that with good tread, kwik fit was on way back from work, they told me I needed a new tyre as punctured in two places which they had circled with chalk. (one circle close to edge) Only expected a puncture repair and didn't have enough cash for new tyre so they fitted the runner back on and off I went.
Visited local tyre place the day after, only one puncture in middle of tyre, repaired for £5 !!!!
Had some wheels balanced by Kwikfit years ago as the tyre fitter I'd used didn't have the adapter for Peugeot 205 wheels on his tyre balancer. Kwikfit balanced and tracked the car, didn't ask for the tracking but thought fair enough it might have needed doing. Paid for both, drove off, but then pulled over just to double check the tracking. Tie rod bolts were caked in grime, obviously not touched. Quick U-turn and refund (for all services) obtained.
How true is the "you drove on the tyre flat so it has to be replaced"? One time after hitting a pothole it was obvious the tyre wall was damaged. Another time after running over a screw, I wasn't so sure.... but replaced it anyway
you can tell if someones driven on the tire flat - when you take said tire off the rim its full of rubber bits.....
its toast once thats happened.
Im an Insurance assessor some time ago I inspected an E Type which has been to Kwik Fit for new front tyres they had jacked it up under the radiator support crossmember destroying the crossmember, radiator and bonnet in the process. well over 5k in damage and the car missed most of the summer shows as the bonnet had to made from scratch as Jaguar don't service them any longer.
Indicator bulb? No-one uses bloody indicators anyway.
Maybe, but they are also my 'priority parking' hazard flashers for when I need to park on double yellows, cycle lanes, etc.
some chain is offering free pads for life, wonder what else they will find tocharge when your car has no wheels on it.
My wife dropped her car off to get the air con re gassed and crapfit sorry kwick shit as it was round corner from her works..when she went to pick the car up they told her that the front tyres had a rip/cut in the side wall the tyre, she told the it was not like that the day before as it was having its mot done, they said Your mot station is crap and missed it..I informed my mate who did mot and he hit the roof. He went round with my wife and kicked off with them over what they said to her. She got a free tyre never been back since.
It's not just Kwik Fit: when I took my Passat for its first service at under 20,000 miles the VW dealer tried to tell me the discs and pads needed replacing. I smelled a scam so declined their kind offer and when they told me the same story last month at 90,000 miles I replied: "I don't believe it because you told me....etc." Insisted on going into the workshop for a good look and had to agree that yes, the discs were in quite ropey condition and could do with changing.
Shysters, all of 'em. The only garage that has never tried to rip me off was our local family-run MOT centre just down the road.
