Years ago when I was a student nurse once a week the hospital would have kippers for the patients breakfast. I was always the last to arrive on duty and thus always got the job of dishing up the kippers - horrid. I do enjoy a kipper but not at that hour of the day

Oh yes. The big bones are easy to remove anyway but the smaller ones are swallowed with brown bread & Lurpak.
Kippers are best on a morning, they go off later in the day.

There is only one kind of bastard worse than the one person in a hotel restaurant who orders kippers, thus ruining everyone else's breakfast...

...and that's the one eating cheese & onion crisps on a train.

BURN THEM.

Agreed, Kippers are immense. Got to be had in the morning and as previously stated, eaten with a brown bread butty to swallow the bones.

Smoked Mackerel also a favourite of mine but not for breakfast. However, tinned Mackerel in Spicy Tomato Sauce and Mackerel with Curry Sauce is also epic on toast in the morning!

Treated myself to kippers for breakfast on a multi-day trip, at small hotel in Strontian, just before cycle up and over to Pollach. Love them, but they are the breakfast that lasts a day kind of thing :/

I think you're supposed to eat a jam sandwich afterwards to stop them repeating on you.

Love the Spicy Tom Sauce ones - on multi-grain Ryvita with cottage cheese
