Does anyone know what file formats the above device will play? I want to put some non-amazon purchased titles on one for a mate but google seems to be bringing up differing answers. We have a kindle fire at home but it is 1st gen so is at least 4yrs old so i was thinking it may have all changed now.
Sorry i forgot the word movies in my sentence. I am wondering whether it will play both avi and mp4 files or if it has to go through 3 party app for on the fly conversion.

Whilst I don't know anything about the Fire specifically, Android can play anything. You might need to install the Play Store app to install a third party app (I rate MX Player highly, VLC is also well regarded), but it's surely doable.
