looking at this for a week, would be me, wife and 2 boys aged 9 and 6 - any good or bad experiences ?
depending on when you go, and the weather the midges can be relentless. I've done a bit of trail building at Kielder, and on more than one occasion I was properly eaten alive.
live in west of Scotland - used to midges !
Though you could buy the best midge repellant and go for it.
The reviews on the website are superb to be fair. ... enough to make me think of booking!
I'm always a bit sceptical about website reviews like that !
Went for a long weekend about 6 years ago. Stayed in one of the cabins, it was pretty good, had access to the pool (usually with no-one else there. Only downside was there wasn't much to do other than all the stuff Kielder itself has to offer (this was before the recent trail developments).
Would definitely go back.

believe me, nothing I have ever experienced comes close to the kielder midges...
Stayed there for K100. Nice for that sort of event but would not rush to take the family. Suspect there is not so much to do and yes the midges are properly bad. We have had some good holidays a bit further east - done the Wooler area three times and also Craster. You benefit from having the hills - Cheviots, plus the lovely beaches are on hand. Tended to go earlier or later in the year but I expect summer would be fine.
