BTW - the definition of assault ( not sexual assault) that I gave here was given to me by a professor in law during a series of lectures at honours level that I attended.

Nope Turner and i are debating[ repeating is more accurate] the other person is trolling.

I agree its time to stop no one is going to either change their opinions or say anything new.

not least because a chivalrous man would not dream of touching inappropriately

Too busy being a violent psychopath I’d imagine. My definition of chivalry might be outdated admittedly.

Didn't the Sony hack reveal that Sandler was an unpleasant arsehole anyway?

Now, I'm playing devils advocate a bit here, but when Geetee did his thing in the #metoo thread he was (rightly) ripped to shreds.
Now we're all here on a thread about a predatory male actor (allegedly) assaulting teenage boys debating the misogyny of Adam Sandler's touchy fingers.
How is this not the same?

Or am I just a mysoginist too?

It's the same.. It's rapey.

We all have close friends that we touch in social situations, that's completely natural IF you are close friends.

What's coming out is not friendly.

You're so smart, you figure it out. Do you know what The Crucible is about?

It doesn't matter what the creators want you to think it's about. Junkyard will tell you what they really meant to convey but were too frightened or weak to do so. Or does he only do that for women? #everydaysexism

I find this thread really amusing. However I am astonished ant the neanderthal attitudes and lack of insight shown by some. Its 2017 chaps - not 1970

My internet is not fast enough to trawl through the whole thread at the mo... has anyone mentioned Kevin Spacey's trip on Jeffrey Epstein's plane with Bill Clinton yet?

(Not that the palace would acknowledge such matters you understand)

Abusers don’t get to play the “I’m sorry card”. I’m sorry does not excuse taking advantage or assaulting if someone nor even an attempt to do so.

Until the vast majority of people understand that friendships and intimate relationships should not have an unequal power dynamic - I don’t think we will see enough change.

Spacey is having all his scenes replaced and reshot in his latest movie… Christopher Plummer is his replacement.

Career over?

He probably has enough money to do his own thing if he wanted to, same as Mel Gibson done. Whether anyone would watch it is another thing.

Friendships maybe but for rlationships I'm not sure that this is what women always want though - look at the popularity of the 50 shades novels for an extreme example...

Falls back to an appropriate power dynamic maybe, but judging appropriate is the trick.

Ok fair enough. If it’s that difficult a question. You don’t have to answer. I was just wondering what point you were making by bringing up the 50 Shades novels.

Nothing we don't already know - the world is full of ****ers!

The point was fairly obvious, surprised anyone could miss it.

You’ll have to forgive my stupidity. I missed the obviousness of it. I’m still wondering what it is.

that power dynamics are not always 50/50 in a successful relationship, nor desired to be.

Like I said in the first place - an appropriate power dynamic - but you skipped that point as you thought you were being clever (failed) in trying to establish some sort of power dynamic over me 🙂

And I'm not even suggesting the power dynamic has to be in favour of the man.

Ever noticed how the Lord of the Rings books are disproportionately popular among men?

I think we can take this as solid evidence that what they really want is homo-erotic relationahips with other short, hairy men.

Spacey is having all his scenes replaced and reshot in his latest movie… Christopher Plummer is his replacement.

Career over?

I'd say so. Unless he teams up with Harvey Weinstein and Charlie Sheen to do their own thing.

It’s an interesting world you inhabit where you would draw that kind of conclusion from a simple question.

You still haven’t answered it but that’s ok. You don’t have to. If you’re suggesting that because women (or indeed men) have sexual fantasies where an unrealistic power dynamic is invoked for the a turn-on, and that that somehow represents what they might desire in real life, then I’d have to disagree. To be fair, it is an opinion I’ve heard a bit since the 50 Shades series became so popular. “Bloody hell, she wants me to share the cleaning and the ironing and be a big dominant tiger in bed at the same time.” So, you’re not alone.

But I dunno, maybe you’re not suggesting that.

I haven't watched them, but I can't imagine that 11 hours-worth of magic dwarves and that without even any hairy man-love action to relieve the tedium would have done so well at the box office. Perhaps you dozed off?

That said, I did quite like Stalker, which was essentially 3 hours of some blokes wandering around a field. So maybe I should give LOTR a go

But I dunno, maybe you’re not suggesting that.

I said 50 shades as an extreme example.

Other examples might just be that one partner wants the other to make all the decisions.

Just been out for a few months with a south african lady who was a bit shocked at my level of domestication, she assumed that a man would be looking for a woman to perform maybe all of those chores.

I assume south african men as a lot more egotistical as well as she was a bit disturbed by the fact I am not and thought my recent divorce had given my confidence a good kicking, and it was difficult to persuade her that it hadn't.

I had to cut her loose in the end though - she was too much into 80's music 🙂 (Other difference were apparent...)

I said 50 shades as an extreme example.

I’d have to question why you’d use it as an example at all. Why choose an “extreme” example to demonstrate that there are “unequal” power dynamics in certain relationships where both partners are getting equity and are happy with how it’s all working. That’s just real life and there’s nothing really complicated about it. Why you’d have to use women’s sexual fantasies concerning an artificially unequal dynamic to demonstrate this is what was confusing me. The same person can have a spectrum of fantasies going from clothing right to some pretty dark stuff - but this (the dark stuff) doesn’t translate to how they should be or want to be treated in a relationship.
