I'm interested in trying for the StrongFirst SF1 instructors cert. I wonder if I'm in the ballpark strength and conditioned wise.
Anyone done it and can evaluate if I'm likely to be capable based on below?Â
I'm a 100% student of YouTube. I've been mostly KB for the last 6 months - 3-4 times per week (plus some abs and dips).

Male
I been doing the snatch test each week for the last month. Over 50y so it's the lighter bell. 4:20s is my best result to-date. Not 100% sure about form but I know there is no press out.
TGU - 28 both sides. 24 is a lot tidier.
Clean, press, squat 2x32 for 5 per set. I use lifting shoes to help full squat depth. Is that allowed?
Any tips please?.There is a course in 1 month I am keen to be on.
Much thanks.

Don't know anything about the course, but if you want to do it, then just do it, don't let yourself be limited by worry about learning and progressing, even if you are not quite up to the standard it will at least be a lesson on what you need to do to improve and build on.Â
That is very good advice.
its just a bit pricey so would love to have a good chance of success.
Can't comment on this course (or kettlebells beyond using them a bit) but I did a TRX instructor course a few years ago. Only non gym staff member on the course and all they cared about was that I was able to correctly perform the exercises they showed me exactly how they showed me so I could demonstrate them and my interpersonal skills to work with others and correct form accurately and diplomatically. In a way my relative lack of experience was an advantage as some of the gym bunnies had a lot of poor form and habits to unlearn whilst a lot of it was completely new to me. Monkey see, monkey do worked very well.
And a reminder - the point of instructor courses is so you can instruct others - not to be a kettlebell god yourself. It's far more important that you know the correct technique and you can do the exercise once or twice and identify issues in others than are some superhuman endurance athlete who could win some competition. You are getting training to be a facilitator, not a participant.Â
Thanks Convert. I hear ya - and that's where I'm most interested - learning for myself. Don't plan to teach in the near future.Â
The SF1 course also requires one of be of a certain physical standard. i would just like to be well prepared and informed before I commit that's all.Â

Can't offer any advice, as never done any kettle bell work myself, or even heavy weights, just interested, there's very little (if any) of this I could do with a 24kg KB: (edit: 20kg for over 50s)

Can you join their forum without having been a customer?

Hmm, maybe not the right course for you then. Obviously don't know the content of this course but I've done a lot of instructor courses over the years (sailing, skiing, mountain biking, swimming, mountaineering, paddle sports and that TRX) and every course has the a good dollop of child protection, risk assessment, how to setup up a class, suggested routines for beginners etc that'll be irrelevant to you. You going on this sounds the equivalent of someone wanting to improve their personal sailing who should be going on an advanced L5 dinghy racing course and instead going on a dinghy instructors course. Surely there must be some better 'advanced kettlebell' camp type things to go on instead.

worth asking the instructors themselves about this! They may run it!
Not in the near future but if I can get my work lifestyle balance right in the next couple of years I would like to spend some time away from the desk and maybe find a gym I can run some classes.
I'm my head:
Advanced course = benefits one
Instructor course = benefits many

Good idea - I'll email the instructor running the course!
