Akuntsu looks like a handy base, nice and close to the drop. What's the money like out there? I'm swithering over joining in or heading out for some Powerplay antics and get a cheap Python.

Used to be great, only 50 or so Ly from Borann, but that doesn't matter so much now. Velniat (Stephenson Hub) is OK, Kuwembaa is not so good as the range of modules is poor. Akuntsu is probably the best, Wylie dock is very close to the star and I have found good mining missions at the other bases (20M for 54t of tritium).

In general the area is Federal so good for increasing rank with missions. Saying that the empire is within 40Ly with good sites around Benty for HGE (Imperial shielding). Good for all raw mats within 10Ly. No gankers, but it suffers from being on the edge of the bubble.

Now that was an expensive evening!

V8ninety and I went goid hunting in Celaeno. We took out a few scouts to warm up the gauss cannons then moved onto a cyclops interceptor. It's fair to say they are more difficult! Bizarrely we managed to kill the first one we encountered, but that included a rebuy and trip back to the station to repair (not the method shown on most videos). To add insult to injury the caustic death cloud killed V8ninety and I nerfed the heart trying to collect it. The next two cyclops basically won, one cleared off after killing mw for the second time and the other managed to kill us both!

My advice is:
Watch the videos (it is nothing like as easy)
'work the plan', randomly attacking and getting too close are both big no-nos (but remember Mike Tyson)
Practice with you gauss, the number of times I took a tricky shot, which missed, then got presented with a point blank opportunity while reloading was incredibly frustrating.

goid hunting in Celaeno

Yep, that was tough! I think I ate through about 40mil in rebuys, and several mill in repairs, too. We've proven that we can kill'em though, we just need to time and coordinate our attacks a little better, and dodge the lightning that sucks you in. I think that knowing when to tactically retreat to a safer distance is what I struggled with a bit. Oh and I need to get better at aiming too... Excellent challenge though! Looking forward to our next wing up. To do; bit more engineering on my thrusters, a new cool running power plant (apparently if you are below 25%) the Goids struggle to acquire you as a target) and see if I can fit a field maintenance unit into the Krait.

Yeah, 35M plus for me (good job my Krait is cheaper!). My disappointment at getting spanked so badly has worn off and the determination to improve has set in. My list is similar to yours:

More fixed weapon practice
Engineering my HRPs
Practice the plan
Flak practice

I don't know whether it's better to have less points in the shields and quicker regen or more total points?

well done for you both having a go at 'goid hunting, looks tricky. Would a wing of 3 make it easier for one to take a break and regen shields or decontaminate? I'd say quicker regen because when the shields are down that's what would get you back in the fight. What about boosters or cell banks? D2EA had a video on shield comparisons and which boosters.

Also, on the BGS stuff, I found this link which had tons of info. I read it and I was still perplexed/amazed at the complexity of it.

https://novaforce.com/guides/bgs/

I'll be in solo around Akuntsu etc tonight running missions

@son-of-mike when you break from combat, usually when the goid's shields come up after a heart is hit, then it just chases one ship (the one who did it the most damage in the last 30 seconds). The others get the chance to break/repair/regen. I would like to say that 3 would breeze it, but it really isn't as easy as some guys make it look.

Yeah, BGS gets very complicated, that's before you include negotiations with other player factions! I will be around Akuntsu as well, either licking my wounds, or taking it out on pirates!

@V8ninety had a last pop before I left for home, took out 2 hearts and destroyed a swarm completely with a reverski. That was as good as it gets, but I did manage to escape with 1% hull left and a broken canopy!

Working the 3:1, decent money to me made albeit some trudging about to do.

Funniest gank ever earlier, couldn't take me down boosting in circles, he waked out and logged off when the feds turned up. Mate who was watching tried to make out he blew me up, nope still 18% Hull and full shields. If he can't take me out what hope does he have. Proper tickle hobo.

The quality of ganking these days, that's shameful! I imagine if you put a ticket in FDev will get you a better ganker next time.

Personally, I expect, no demand, to be blown to smithereens within seconds of being interdicted, preferably with some exotic weapon that I don't even know how to use.

Glad you made a few quid with NKL.

I ran some NKL missions out of Velniat last night. I had a wild goose chase for a donation of Palladium having not paid proper attention to EDDB and didn't notice that the system I flew to for a good price only had a few tons, not the 72T I needed. It didn't help that I'd stacked various missions and was getting in a tangle with where I needed to go for which mission and then getting sidetrack by high grade emissions, material traders and engineering upgrades because I just happened to be "passing by". But then I'm easily distracte

😉

I got ganked last night leaving Jamieson Memorial.

It was my own stupid fault though.

I was actually trying out my anti-ganking Orca (it can boost close to 600m/s!) and after successfully out running them I forgot about waking away and lucky shot took out my thrusters

But hanging out outside the station and just shooting people leaving Jamieson really is some shitty gameplay

@richmtb - good effort and I agree, it's really poor, FDev ought to hand out bans etc but I expect gankers will gank regardless.

Here's an idea, I thought there was a "no fire zone" out to 8km around a station. Mass lock ends about 5.5km outside so you have 2.5km where you can jump without being shot (in theory). While slow or stationary charge the jump drive and once fully charged boost to initiate it. A bit like a dragster start. Or do gankers not pay any attention to no fire zones? <asks the guy who has always played in Solo>

Another idea is the "Suicide-winder" tactic. Work out who the ganker is. Sort yourself out with a Sidewinder, no shields, hull down to a few percent. If you can work out when they're coming back into the station boost into them. You'll die and they'll get space-killed for killing you in the no-fire zone. Again, just a theory but might be fun and the rebuy isn't much. 🙂

i *think* the suicidewinder was a trick ppl used to pull, but doesnt the "victim" (sidewinder) have to be under the speed limit and the "offender" (other ship) have to be speeding?

I think there was some "friendly fire" experimental you could put on multis that would allow you to shoot other players but not enrage the authorities, is that how they get around no fire zone?
Obvs not being a griefer I don't know this stuff, I pick up rumours tho

I'd say this is the trouble with Jamieson, but that just ignores the dickishness of that behaviour.

Sometimes it just makes sense to go there and you can't always go in the toughest ship you have. Last time I went was to buy and equip my krait, you know everything you need is going to be there and the discount is worth two rebuys.

Loving a 600m/s Orca though, don't give passengers time to ask for consumer durables!

*********** News from Edge of the Bubble **********

The influence of the NKL continues to grow in Velniat. Officers from the Values Party of Velniat are astonished by the decline in their fortunes and the rapid growth of NKL, "They weren't even present in the Velniat system until two months ago" said one harassed looking dignitary.

In other news the race for supremacy in the Akuntsu system has taken a very intriguing turn as the Akuntsu Republic Party has taken a strong position as the third largest party. Efforts to bolster the influence of the ARP appear to have come from unlikely sources, with rumours of other parties making significant contributions.

*******************************************************

Great work everbody!

Cease work for NKL in Akuntsu, we don't want to risk a conflict with Imset Patron's Principles before we initiate one with ARP

Righto, away for the weekend but will take heed!

Got interdicted by a Deadly in an Anaconda this morning Had a wee go at him with my Cobra but was pissing into the void, took 2 layers of shields off me and I barely scratched him. Got away though so at least I know my booster game is working.

Sometimes it's nice just to see where you are, so to speak, and a deadly Anaconda is a pretty good benchmark.

I'm hoping we will have matched influence with ARP by early next week, which should be when the fun starts.

I'm back from holiday (in real life) so I need to work on getting back from holiday in the game and I can join in the fun.

Exploring: never as much fun as it seems at the start.

Welcome back! I think exploring in Elite is about right, masses of rocks and ice, infrequently broken up by awe and wonder.

To be honest it's probably why I haven't set off for Colonia yet, despite having an Alt account ready to break up the journey.

When you get back it would be great to join up for a bug hunt or some other mischief!

awe and wonder

I didn't see any of that. Might be doing it wrong.

I don't think I have enough money for AX. I'm only on 750m. I think I will do some missions then try and find a get rich quick scheme.

Wing painite mining, with a couple of people you can fill a python with 200t in less than an hour. Sell the first load to a carrier, then fill up again and sell to a station with a good price 250M in no time!

I spent about 150M on my Anti-xeno Krait and so far about 35-40M on rebuys. Plus the mats to upgrade armour, thrusters, power plant and distributor, nothing else is engineered which isn't compensating for my lack of combat skill.

Yes indeed, still working out the best way to use it and rounding up all of my ships and modules from around the bubble.

Then I'm off to sort out Coribes, someone is doing some work there for the imperial faction.

Akuntsu work for Akuntsu Republic Party
Velnist work for NKL
Corribes work for NKL

Are the most ongoing actions.

Apologeis for my spullign, damn tiny laptop keys and sausage fingers!

My new toy is called Moon's Spawn (any Erikson fans in the house?), parked within easy walking distance of the beach, Wylie Port and several nice restaurants.

I think at the minute everyone is welcome aboard. Your arrival is timely, I'm hoping it kicks of with ARP in the very near future, though it will be an election (I think!).

It's the one next to Slumpy's Fuel and Limpets which belongs to D0NK of this parish.

I’m on. Only one ship though; can’t transfer ships in without a shipyard it seems, which is a pity. Probably not worth the cash/upkeep though tbf. No matter; I’ve transferred a couple of useful ships to a nearby starport. Let the shenanigans continue 👍🏼

I wonder what changes this latest update will bring...

Ah, I remember D0NK saying he had a carrier.

The shipyard, which you need for other people to store, would more than double my weekly upkeep. A few mining runs and I might be able to add it.

I managed to drop the heart at the Astras and while I was there I thought I'd have a pop at another cyclops. Popped the first heart 99% hull left and still had my shields (yeah, I'm maligno now!!!), rebuy before I dropped the second. Ah well, back to the drawing board. Though I have learned some new stuff, check out WiggyB's vid on youtube.

By a stroke of enormous good luck, celeano was the highest sell for painite that day, so I got almost 800k per t.

Decent spawn rate for LTDs with any luck.

Can someone come pick me up? How long does it take you carrier commanders to cover 7.5kLy?

15 jumps x 20 minutes - (15 minutes to spin up and 5 minute cooldown per jump)

So about 5 hours.

I reckon I could do it quicker than that in my 70ly DBX.

Plus the amount of tritium.

I haven't done many jumps, but so far I have hit about 100ly for 50t of tritium, so around 3750t of tritium, average price 42000 per t.

A snip at 157M (I must do some more jumps to get a better handle on this), but suffice to say not cheap.

I've got a bit in the bank so if there's a few people who want to transport ships to akuntsu I should be able to fund the shipyard service, certainly for a few weeks. Let me know. Can maybe use it as a base, jump to more useful NKL locations, park up very close to any conflict zones that ensue

Surely it'd be easier to just transfer the ships to the nearest station?

It's not as though it's an empty system.

I currently have 4 ships at Stephenson Dock in Velniat - Cutter, Python, DBX and FDL.

Are you? Must have missed that bit of the thread while I was on a break, whats it called? STW something?

dunno about paying towards it, no need to discuss that yet, theres already a tariff on stuff, if it proves useful long term we'll maybe sort something.

I do need to jump to a system that offers carrier service upgrades if we're interested in adding that tho. (just in case anyone is parked on my FC)

I did wonder about buying up peoples cheap mining stuff (the none precious side commodities you get when you're actually digging for painite/LTDs) at galactic average prices which I can then turn a profit on from bulk, but I *think* you have to setup a rule to buy each commodity and set limits and hypothecate funds for them all (yawn!)
Donating 1t of tritium here & there is easy, but like I said dont worry about that stuff yet.
