Found in the front garden and it isn't strong enough to fly yet. I've put it in a cardboard box to stop it becoming cat food, is there anything i can do for it to improve chances of survival?
Ahhh, the Housemartins:
What a good place to be
Don’t believe it
’cause they speak a different language
And it’s never really happened to me
{it’s happy hour again}

If you keep it inside in a cardboard box its mum can't feed it and encourage it to fly....
I'd put it back outside, off the ground if possible, and just keep an eye (and waterpistol) out for cats.
was in a similar situation last week. i found a blackbird fledgling on the patio.
i put it in box with some bedding and fed it dried dog food that had been in water until soggy. i also spotted its parents going in and out of the box to feed it.
after a day or so it would jump/fly out of the box but not get far. then finally it got the flying thing sussed and hasn’t been back.
IIRC martins can't take off from the ground - so I am afraid it is probably had its chips. Do you know where the nest is? Can you return it to the nest or nearby?
Try the RSPB for advice
Yep put it back,(as above) the parents will still be around to keep on feeding it.
1 Force feed oats for a few days.
2 Drown in a small bowl of armangac
3 Roast for 12 mins at 180 C
4 Eat whole with a tea towel over your head
You absolutely 100% positively sure it's not a baby robin?
j_me - funny as the proverbial 😛
Although you'll probably need a packet of Wotsits to fill you up afterwards.
housemartins can take off from the ground.
T.J was thinking of a swift.
