we can abolish the lot of them and claim our land back
You know the Monarchy don't own ALL the land do you?
Who do you reckon should be on?
Vera Lynn.
NWA must be proud of their legacy
and as for Duran Duran….is there a better metaphor for the current state of the UK than some 65year old white guys shouting into a microphone, out of tune and out of step 🙂
Vera Lynn.
About 45 years late, she was on at the queens silver jubilee.
I'm thoroughly enjoying it too - as are my kids and in laws. Agree with ton.
This btw is probably the best thing I've read on this forum in a long long while:
Am disappointed they went with ‘Circle of life’ from the Lion King.
‘Just can’t wait to be king’ would’ve been hilarious…
This is now truly beyond parody
That environmental bit was the equivalent of David Brent saying ‘get my guitar….’
Is he next up to do Free Love on the Free Love Freeway?
After posting not much is happening round my way, I drove past a wee building site that had some walled blocker panels installed...sprayed on them was 'F### the Monarchy - Feed the poor' - very few flags and bunting around so I guess that sentiment is probably shared by more than 1 person.
Can't really argue that point but if the longer weekend means people talk to neighbours more then it can't be bad as community is important.
What a well focused message from the heir to the heir. Hats off to him.
[ and I’m a republican ]
Blimey, what a mega-plug for fragile Earth on Party at the Palace, wasn't expecting that. And much more than a fleeting mention.
A couple of union flags inside the local chain pub near here but just the usual drinkers doing the usual stuff.
The fawning sycophancy bits are getting increasingly nauseating
Is Elton going to do ‘Candle in the Wind’ next? 😂
No ‘I’m still standing?’ Pfft.
Enjoyed Stephen Fry’s jab at the PM…
We’re watching it a bit behind you all, only have issues with Craig David and ALW so far. Great to see Nandi there, Diversity played it safe. Looks like Donavan put the Coke down for this one.
Lots of the other diversity on stage which is excellent.
Fantastic so far imo, I bet the atmosphere is brilliant. Kind of regret not going to watch, just for the atmos! But my sofa is comfy
Good showing of the UK to the world.
Tomorrow will be massive. Wouldn't be surprised if a billion people over the globe see some part of tomorrow. It's a massive part of history - the Queen is probably the most famous and recognisable person on Earth, I'd imagine? I couldn't seriously think of someone more so
We're lucky to have that from our tiny island let's be honest!
She’s enjoying it as much as I’d enjoy sticking her in an inflatable supermarket dinghy in a Force 9…

Sound mixer for Diana Ross could do better…
@flannol I reckon a billion people around the world are bemused at the desperation of it all.
They’ll probably be as baffled as I am by this festival of cap doffing and forelock tugging by the common peasantry

You’re doing a bloody good job of keeping track of it though binners.
Good show old chap.
I’ve never been a Royalist, but give Maj respect, she done a great job and it’ll never be repeated. We should be very proud of what she has done for her entire adult life. God Bless You Ma’am.

I’ve been mesmerised by it. It’s like a cheese dream. A spectacularly crap cheese dream
Bread and circuses. Well… maybe not bread. You can’t have everything
Let them eat cake
So how did they do the lights above Buck Palace?
And who was singing live, and who shouldn’t have been singing live 😂
she done a great job...
... of paying for the silence regarding one son, and allowing the other to push actively dangerous and at best useless treatments on the NHS.
But apart from that, yeah, good job.
Congratulations to her on lasting 70 years. Must be tough deciding which palace to summer in.
So how did they do the lights above Buck Palace?
drones. Same answer for Duran Duran.
… of paying for the silence regarding one son, and allowing the other to push actively dangerous and at best useless treatments on the NHS.
Edit - not getting into silly arguments about what should have or could have been done differently.
Having to keep your son out of the picture because he’s a nonce, by pretending he’s got covid isn’t really that majestic, is it?
Marin
Bunting up and party BBQ tomorrow in road. Good bit of community togetherness. Half pro royal half don’t care but nice to celebrate having neighbours I get on with.
Shame its going to be raining tomorrow Gregg, you could have joined in at our "celebrations" in Neston on Thursday.
Sod all to do with the royal bash, more to do with helping women over the last 200+ years.

Ermm why? Being a constitutional monarch isnt the most challenging job in the world and her main achievement seems to be being a fairly late born child to a monarch who died fairly young and so getting to this jubilee.
Now Henry III had to put some effort in to reach the golden jubilee although carried by his son towards the end. Likewise Edward III did well although it went to bits in his later years as he got ill. James I and VI was in a somewhat better position to get old although failed with his offspring.
About the one real job left for the queen was providing suitable heirs which isnt looking promising.
I might be a bit of a republican by nature, but fair play for the Paddington skit. A bit more of that humanity and gentle mischievousness over the years might have gone a long way...
The concert was bland as expected but weirdly mesmerising. Kudos to Stephen Fry though.
Plenty of events on around where I live in Clackmannanshire and a weekend of glorious sunshine too. Loads of folk out, kids have had a great time with the gala and all that stuff. It's been nice for them after missing out for 2 years. Our youngest's mind was blown by seeing a funfair for the first time.
Appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea but does mostly seem to be being enjoyed in this part of Scotland. Daughter brought a massive painting of the Queen home from school and it's up in the window which is yet to be egged.
We should be very proud of what she has done for her entire adult life.
I just don't understand this sentiment at all.
Sounds like someone is near Menstrie...

Am I missing something? What's she done with her vast wealth and ceremonial power?
Well, our big village do has been cancelled due to the torrential rain we've had since 5am.
I shall not be required to help put up tents and marquees after all.
Weather gods 1, monarchy nil
You do wonder about how people must have suffered for them to display this level of Stockholm Syndrome, kissing the ring of their superiors.
Meanwhile in Perth
You didn't see the thousands on Tay Street with the classic cars then? Or the hundreds who came to the summer fair at the library on Friday?
I've been slightly involved with the organisation of a few jubilee events in Perth and attendances have been much higher than predicted. Probably due to the excellent weather as much as anything else, but still, people have come out and joined in.
fair play for the Paddington skit
Agreed. It was a lovely thing. Playful, warm and welcoming.
I just looked at Twitter for the above picture of Perth. It seems to be being used to prove that no-one in Perth was interested in the jubilee.
But just round the corner it looked like this:
I've never seen Perth as busy as it was yesterday.
Yep playful like her 2012 entrance to the Olympic Games.
I’d have been out to check out those cars as well. Especially on a sunny day. Not sure that adds weight to the idea that people are mad for the jubilee though.
What’s she done with her vast wealth and ceremonial power?
She's opened some hospital wings (not designed, built, funded or staffed them mind; but ribbons don't cut themselves) and done a shit ton of waving and hat wearing. Jeez, some people have very high expectations!

She has been to a lot of horse races and owned a lot of race horses too.

you mean the illegal immigrant that would be deported to Rwanda under the current regime… 😉
They've had a few laws tweaked to disadvantage their tenants. How does one get into Cambridge with a C and an E? Must've been magic in the interview.
Am I missing something? What’s she done with her vast wealth and ceremonial power?
It's a question which you have seemed to have asked before AA, so maybe this will help you understand the alternative point of view. It is a gushing tribute from Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/nicola-sturgeon-first-minister-scotland-bbc-snp-b2093382.html
In case you have paywall issues here are the points she makes:
Nicola Sturgeon has spoken of her “deep respect” for the Queen, saying her private conversations with the monarch are one of the privileges of being Scotland’s First Minister.
In an interview with the BBC, the First Minister said even those who were not “great supporters” of the monarchy still thought of her as a “quite extraordinary individual”.
She said: “One of the things that I feel great respect for the Queen around is just that dedication, that selfless commitment to duty and to service.
I think it is fair to say that, that opportunity to talk with her, to benefit from her knowledge, her wisdom and perhaps above all the completely unique perspective she has on modern world history, is something that I deeply value and will always really treasure.”
She continued: “I have benefited from it, I have learned from it and it is something I will always cherish.
“She is somebody who has had a front-row seat on the last 70 years of history.
“She has met every world leader over that time. She has seen up close and personal some of the key events of history.
The knowledge that gives her, the wisdom that gives her, the perspective that gives her is much more valuable in these conversations then any specific thing that she will perhaps say.”
I hope that helps you to understand how people who clearly admire Mrs Windsor see her.
