Well. I have two points to add.

For those saying he's the best English midfielder, LOL.

Also, he yet again proved his colours. At least now we won't get these bollocks rumours about him coming to Arsenal. Horrible little man.

He tucked up that Arsenal lad nicely. His next dive will be better. Given that Alex Song just stamped on his calf, a classic shithouse move, a measure of justice was done.

To be fair, it was a red for the slap, but he was a bit theatrical about it. Red for both would've been about right.

Should have been red for both. The fact that he can throw himself to the ground with a delay after being tapped very lightly, claim several times that he was punched and then come out and say he doesn't dive are frankly shameful.

Not really. The Arsenal player (the cheat) dived to try and cheat his way to a penalty - this is a booking, and would anger any opposing player in the league. The cheat then slapped Barton who clearly made a meal of it. Dive for a penalty and then slap someone is obviously a red. Get slapped by someone who's just tried to cheat your team out of the game and go down easy - not close to a red.

Mix in the fact that Barton had been the victim of a properly snide dig from Song earlier on and most neutrals will feel that it was a fair outcome.

So the Arsenal player who dived and tried to get a penalty was cheating but Barton going down when hardly touched and claiming he had been punched in order to get an opponent sent off was fair enough was it .

Agree with TJ he won't or probably can't change , I don't think he's all bad , very committed if you were being kind . ( Joey Barton that is not TJ )

Just read an interview with him on BBC - 'yeah I went down easy'.

So - that's okay, but going down 'easy' when caught in the box isn't?

Try to think about what you are saying silly boy.

I think that's absolutely disgusting and a pretty poor example for the kids. 'Easy' is an adjective and the statement really needs the adverb 'easily' as he's describing the verb. Deserves to be sent down for that one.

The Arsenal player didn't dive. Barton put his oar in and then did a drama queen act and lied about the "slap" purely to get the player sent off. Nice.

all great but it ignores the fact an Arsenal player slapped him. Had it been reversed and barton "dived" then slapped Gervinho [ WTF IS GOING IN WITH THAT HAIR?} I can safely assume you would be defending Barton then?

I don't know, I'd call the incident if I actually saw the footage rather than make judgement based upon a hypothetical situation. I don't have a Barton agenda but he did himself no favours yesterday despite the provocation (Song incident).

Nice to see that Wenger has finally decided to start concentrating on the game too.

"I don't understand the red card," said Wenger. "I am 100% sure the referee did not see what happened.

"I think he has his back turned to the incident. If he had seen it, he would have sent both of them off, or nobody."

Junkyard - he slapped Barton because Barton manhandled him. He manhandled him because he decided the 'dive' was cheating. So he cheated himself.

6 and two 3s but Barton has the reputation and is his own worse enemy.

i dont think barton covered himself in glory but it is hard to think of another player who would have been stamped on then hit who would get this much grief for it.
I also imagine the response if Barton had stamped and then been provoked into a slap.
It was not a great spectacle but cheating may be going a tad far. I thought it was a dive initially but I suspect that makes me wrong rather than a cheat. I suspect every premier league player would have gone down for that slap as well - this is not much defence but it cannot be used to single him out for our contempt.

If he'd have been playing for Arsenal yesterday, they probably would have won.

Too much hand-wringing overreaction to anything involving JB.

Incidentally, apparently as Barton grabbed Gervinho off the floor while the ball was still in play, that should have been a penalty as well. And while Gervinho went down easily, he was tripped. Barton should also technically have been off the pitch already for leaving and reentering the field of play without the referee's permission to abuse the fourth official. But hey.

Oh look, Arsenal fayns complaining about the actions of everyone but their own players, once again...

Song shooduv gone for the stamp, but to be quite honest, if I was the ref, I'duv red-craded Gervinho or that stupid hairdo, before he even stepped onto the pitch.

[img] [/img]

Barton, Song and Bacary Sagna wooduv got yellows at least for their barnets....

๐Ÿ˜†

Arsenal are ill-disciplined and lack leaders on the pitch. I expect they'll pick up quite a few more reds before the season's out. And start a few more pitch brawls.

And now their best two players have left, and very few top players will want to sign for them, I expect they'll start sliding down the table. Wenger's last season? Could well be, eh. Speshly if they finish mid-table. Walcott, Van Persie, Arshavin and a few others could leave too, making things worse.

If I were an Arsenal fayn, I'd be worried about more than Joey Barton right now.

As for Barton himself, silly boy, but tbh I think Arsenal got their just deserts yesterday. Don't condone his actions, but Arsenal are in no place to try to bleat on about how underhaynd other players are ffs!

the gervinho / barton hand bags made good viewing in a dull encounter.

Song is the real nasty piece of work here though, be a disgrace if he doesn't get a ban for that stamp!

Ooh, don't let an Arsenal fayn hear you say that, Tim. Or they'll probbly have a go about how Barton deliberately forced Song to stamp on his calf or something....

Arsene Whinger does not in any way understand why Gervinho was sent off. Erm, you might want to try reading the rules on the game, Arsene. Hitting another player in the face is serious violent conduct and a straight red. As was the stamp, which cooduv bin really serious. Proper nasty thing to do, that. Far worse than the slap. Disgusting.

Not an Arse fan thanks. Just commenting on what I saw - Barton will be in for a rough season and find himself out of the first team if he doesn't reel it in a bit.

But in the general scheme of things, the actions of two Arsenal players in that game were worser than owt Barton did, yet once again the focus is on Barton. we should be discussing Arsenal's lack of discipline, not Barton, really. What he did by picking Gervinho up when the poor lamb fell over, was just being helpful, surely. ๐Ÿ˜€ Had any other players done that, people would be saying how it was just a bit of frustration at what looked like cheating (Gervinho was tapped but went down looking for the penalty).

Barton then used the same 'fall down like I've bin shot' tactic that Gervinho had done, and it worked in his favour. Arsenal got their just deserts, and it's good to see a team who regularly resort to this kind of thing actually get penalised for it. Then, did you see the Newcastle players trying to break it up, and other Arsenal players come steaming in? Arsenal very lucky to end the game with 10 men, could just as easily bin 9 or even 8.

Barton is no angel, but at least he's honest, passionate and committed.

Unlike most of the Arsenal Squad....

Yeah and if I was a Liverpool fan I'd be far more worried.

Although actually, I wouldn't. 6th place again is about right.

We'll see, Sawyer, we'll see... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thing is, Liverpool fayns at least realistic about our team's chances; your lot are continually deluded as you have bin now for the last six potless years....

6th place again is about right.

Your lot will be lucky if they reach such dizzying heights.

Got any comment on the disgusting behaviour by at least two of your players yesterday?

Thought not. Typical Arsenal denial....

Arsenal's first big challenge comes only this week, with a CL qualifier against Udinese. They better hope Udinese aren't that good, cos the way they played yesterday, they stand a good chance of not even getting into the CL proper. With no escape route into the Europa League, I think. So, pressure on even this early, without looking like a team who can actually handle it.

As for Liverpool; great first half, but unlucky with the penalty, disallowed (perfectly good really) goal, and Downing's screamer off the bar. Cooduv easily bin out of sight by half time really. And only one serious error for their goal. Shooduv killed the game off first half really. Frustrating, but not the end of the World. Plenty of positives.

But Sawyer, as an Arsenal fayn, tell me honestly; what do you realistically expect from this season?

not read the whole thread, but what intigued me about the whole thing was why was Barton given a card at all ?

i know that he should have got red not yellow, but - and this is the important bit - tv clearly showed that the ref and lino definately did not see barton man handle the arsenal guy, the ref had his back to the whole thing. it was revealed afterwards that the radio communication between officials was out and the ref and two linos didn't confer until after the cards had been issued. so why and for what was barton given a yellow other than for taking part in the general melee, in which case more cards should have been issued?

on what the ref saw barton shouldn't have received anything. poor refereeing, handing out cards on what he thought might have happened.

as a staunch defender of Barton on this thread in the past, I have to agree he didn't exactly cover himself in glory yesterday, he say he doesn't like cheats after blatantly cheating himself is a bit shameful. However I echo elfins comments, he wasn't the one that stamped on a player, or the one who blatantly dived to win a penalty, or the one that slapped another player in the face, but all the focus is on him. although, after his antics over the lat few weeks he only has himself to blame for that.

Errrr, trying to convince the ref that he'd been punched when the Arse player had girlie slapped him ain't that honest IMO. Ditto for Barton's teamate who upper the ante by claiming Barton had been elbowed.

Cheating tw*ts.

Fair enough, but in fairness, having bin stamped on earlier, Barton and Newcastle had every reason to be peed off.

It was the Arsenal players who should be under scrutiny far more than Barton.

But as usual, Whinger 'did not see the incident'. How convenient. Shooduv bin to Specsavers, Arsene.

Heard from an Arsenal fayn today who is proper disillusioned and fed up already, just one game in! ๐Ÿ˜†

Still waiting for Sawyer's response... ๐Ÿ™„
