[#11559803]

I thought I had struck gold with Levi 541s, wifey went to get me some more as my old pair have now gone at the knees. Discontinued it seems, returned with same size 501s. Literally spray tight across thighs. Can barely do the button fly up. Sitting down is uncomfortable across the bits. Waist is fine.

Really annoyed. Apparently the only other choice had silly taper / tight around the ankles.

Does anyone know the nearest Jean that fits like a 541? Or maybe even where I can get hold of some old stock 541s in normal denim?

Why is life so hard sometimes?

No idea what 541s fit like but https://www.varusteleka.com/ do man sized jeans with accurate sizing information.

Last 3 pairs I've bought have been from next and they've been great. Fit well, button fly so more ball room, which also seem to extend to the thighs. Some even have a bit of lycra in!

I've got long legs. Found diesel larkee regular straight jeans with a 34" leg work well. For fitted trousers I'm a 36" leg but the diesels seem to come up longer than they say. Lots of reviews moaning that the legs are too long, but suits me. Good amount of size on the thighs as well.

Gap bootcut. Used to quite like next but found the fabric didn't last as long

maybe try 502? You can get them in various taper fits, they're a bit roomier in the thigh than 501.

Any climbing/outdoor brand denim. Personal faves are Prana ones, always had a couple of pairs on the go for the past 15 years or so.

Hebtroco , just measure the waist on the old ones like the website says. GVNR if you want a less squeezed fit.

For me it’s Gap Jeans in Standard Fit resin rinse 34W 34L

Fit well, last ok, always have 3 pairs (best, everyday, scruffy) on the go. When the scruffy ones die I buy a new pair of best.

I love Singletrack jeans threads!  Haha jeans for ‘blokes’, as opposed to millennial snowflakes I presume :).   Hope you find some OP, perhaps go to a shop (not Gap)  and try some on yourself

Bootcut? Really? Come on now STW, we’re better than that.
Ed-55’s are cracking, you won’t go far wrong with them.

Crap denim is very very environmentally unfriendly so buy well buy once...

Black Horse Lane NW3 or Hiut Work@/HAck@ would fit the bill fit wise.

The best quality. Free repairs for life.

Next and Gap are my go-to's. That reminds me, need to get another pair or two before the next lockdown.

Black Wrangler Texas Stretch or non-stretch are what I have been wearing for the last 30+ years. They fitted, were comfortable and have remained available. Perhaps not the latest in cutting age fashion but then nor am I

Edwin ED55 and Blackhorse lane (in whatever cut suits your shape, I wear E5’s).
There is a company in Sweden called SoSo who do selvage denim in various cuts with one called ‘loose Clarke’ for ‘bodybuilders who don’t neglect leg day’
Not bought from them though as I’m definitely a climber not a sprinter.
All these cuts have a high rise and a taper so you don’t look like you stole a teenagers jeans.

Without a boot cut your socks catch fire while welding.

Try doing your own clothes shopping & trying them on before you buy

Oh, hang on. COVID-19 means you can’t try before you buy, at least in Tier-3

Uniqlo are good https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/men-selvedge-stretch-slim-fit-jeans-425299.html

I would go a proper long lasting pair like Hebtroco, or Old Town, but I'd need to try them on first.

Accept that you're a fat bastard and add 2" to the waist of the last pair of 501s you bought.

501's fitted me at 16, not by 18 as I'd been riding with a club 2 years. I'd not get a pair past my knees now. I even have to try on many walking trousers as they don't fit cyclist thighs.

Edwin. ED55's as above but they might be a bit tapered for some, ED47's are a more straight fit.

I like the alpkit ones with stretch. So comfortable. Also have a handy thigh pocket for phones.

From that range I got me some of those ED209s, now apparently I have 20 seconds to comply.

And another. They’ve become the default. Just taken delivery of another pair a couple of days ago as they’re half price on here at the moment, should you fancy stocking up

Uniqlo regular selvedge denim, none of this skinny fit stuff, looking like you’ve raided your girlfriends wardrobe. The regular fit is just like 501’s used to be comfy, just loose enough to be able to move around easily, and not stupidly expensive. Tip - go a size bigger in the waist; before I bought any online, as I was planning a trip up to London, I thought I’d go to one of their stores and try some on. Good thing I did, the 32”x32” I usually wear wouldn’t go over my thighs, but a 34”x32” was perfect.
One thing I particularly like, there’s no fancy stitching, ripped bits, silly logos etc.
I’d like to try a pair of Unbranded 20oz indigo denim selvedge jeans, though, seriously heavy denim, and don’t sit on anything light coloured!

Nudie Steady Eddie's are a favourite of mine. Pretty similar to ED55 but better fit for me.

Asket do a regular build tapered fit that looks about right as well if the above work.

I used to have to avoid anything remotely slim for the reasons cited by the OP - thighs but also total lack of bum. But then I went to H&M and got some fantastic slim aka modern cut chinos that fit me brilliantly. Then I actually started to enjoy my work clothes so I bought some more, and my absolute fave are jeans cut grey chinos in a slightly stretchy fabric. The stretch is the key, they can be cut to look good standing up but they stretch over my thighs when sitting down. AND they were only £15! However there are many slight variations in chinos in there and they're all in different parts of the shop for some reason, so look thoroughly and pay attention because some of their trousers that look very similar are actually cut differently.

Also Gap Athletic cut are great too. For the first time since the 90s I look fashionable.

Howie's organic non stretch jeans are not bad and last 9 months to a year. Have high street jeans (gap, Levi, etc) last about 6 months for me before they wear out in the thighs. No bike riding just general wear. I do only tend to have one pair at a time.

Only pair that lasted more than a year were from a out door barn type place somewhere in Wyoming. Boot cut, no other option!

Tapered jeans are a bit odd looking. Straight fit or a bit boot cut.

I have had trousers wear out in a year, at the crotch, but I consider that a negative result.
