For years I've been buying slim fit Uniqlo jeans but they always blow out at the crotch. Are there any other brands I should be looking at? Happy to pay a little bit more if they last but not £100+.

I'm liking my Alpkit Jeanius having been a 511 wearer for years. The crotch is made differently with a separate gusset so there's no big joint underneath where all the panels meet. Decent amount of stretch too.
I'm not taking a picture of my balls to show you, you'll just have to trust me on that.
Alpkit sequence for me. The thigh pocket is great for carrying phone more comfortably and the material stretch is lovely. I've 4 pairs of various ages. For me they wear first in the pockets (because of car keys), easy enough to repair that. The crotch does go through eventually, even with the big gusset, but then I wear them all the time and walk lots with the dog.
Howies aren't bad for the price, wear-in well and super comfy, and my pair (after three years or more) are only just showing signs of crotch wear.
Primark stretch slim. £12. Last for years. The stretch helps. Probs made in the same sweat shops and Uniqlo and Levis so why pay more?
Why does nowhere ever post that they get their fancy denim...from Nimes? Or nearish? Tuffery denim is supposed to be good.... but not really in relation to the OP..sorry...somewhat off tangent this morning...I'll go back to mumbling into my mild.

All my jeans wear out there. I think that's just jeans for you with their chunky seams.
alpkit sequence seem to be wearing ok so far.
howies are nice but really inconsistent sizing IME.

GStar fit me just right and since they no longer have any uk stores I keep an eye out for 2nd hand pairs in my size on the aforementioned website.
So far it's been great, three pairs in the last couple of months for less than half of the price of a new pair, all three in really good nick.
Doing my bit for the environment and everything, I can indulge my Paul Smith habit guilt free (ish) as well!

My go-to jeans have been Nudie for years as they fit me well, again I scour ebay / vinted for new/nearly new at a reduced cost (as they are pretty expensive RRP). As I work in London, when they do eventually need repair (blown crotch as I do wear skinnier styles which are prone to this) Nudie do a free repair service.
Out of budget I've also invested in a pair of HBTC jeans recently and hoping that they quality denim will see me through years of service.

I used to wear (simple cuts not pre-distressed) G Star because they were pretty much the only thing I could get in a 36” leg. I had a couple of pairs that I wore every day for work (office job) for years and they’re still going strong.
Swrve - used to get through other 'standard' jeans in a few months, these are designed with the gusset and for cyclists. Win, win.
Watching with interest, I too suffer with an unusually abrasive crotch.
Another suggestion for the Denim Doctor. I just had two pairs of Levi 512s fixed with a blown out crotch - happy with the quality of work and environmentally much better than a new pair.
DU/ER have done me ok. They claim to have gussets designed to resist 'crotch blow-out', and I've got 12+ months out of a couple of pairs now before they've worn through. Tesco straight fit. No point getting expensive ones as they will get oil on them from the bike. Oh and skinny fit etc won't go over the cyclists thighs.
Having lost a bit of weight I've warned to my Alpkit jeans, they were too tight around my bum but I've eased the burden a bit. However they are going to wear through at the crotch soon.
Levis 511 are my "good" jeans but they're very roomy in the seat, moreso now, and bunch up at the waist.
I wore an old pair of next jeans today which have become my gardening jeans and I just wiped some paint on them at the weekend - annoyingly as they also fit really well now and feel tough. Going to try and clean them up.

Glad it's not just me with the cyclist thighs ! Bought a pair of regular fit Levi's online couldn't get them up past my knees! I don't cycle in jeans, so for me it's just walking about. The last pair I had go at the crotch were 8 years old, these were decent quality Carhartt selvedge jeans that I'd worn a lot (bought 2nd hand but as new condition!)

Sounds like you sit on your ass a lot whilst other of us walk about a lot (and hence wear the crotch).
In all seriousness I imagine there are various factors including the material, your body shape, walking style, fit of trousers etc. Some denim / material is definitely more robust. I only tend to get the wear in trousers I wear a lot be it my jeans (such as my dog walking ones) or my work trousers.
Thinking of my dog walking jeans I currently use a pair of Wranglers which I picked up cheap at TK Maxx and they have worn incredibly well.

Unfortunately the Alpkit Sequence and the Swrve ones have not stock in my size. I may try Community Clothing.
Dog walking seems to make it happen for me - I'm lucky if I get 4 months out of a new pair of jeans. Hence I looked into the Denim Doctor as it was getting expensive! The other areas of the jeans always stay in pretty good condition so it seems like a waste to bin them.

Typically between £50 - £100 depending on new from manufacturer or discount at TK Maxx. Had a couple of bargains from Vinted.
Experience has shown that buying cheap jeans means buying more often. All the brands I've mentioned about are excellent quality and last well. My son (uni student) gets his from River Island / Next. They do not last as long. He knicked a pair of Hilfiger off me a few months ago and has commented on the better fit / feel.

Next jeans are comfy. But ime don't last. More like tracksuit bottoms than jeans.
Diesel Jeans last well. They always fade rather than die.
The ones I'm wearing now are from 2005. £70 in 2005 was expensive, but has turned out to be good value.
All Next clothing is annually disposable. None of it seems to last or wash particularly well.
I've been buying thrift shop Levis for the last couple of years. You can usually get them in good condition at a fraction of the cost, but, its mental the variance in size and fit you get with them. Even with what are meant to be the same size and fit. I suppose given the size of Levi's supply chain, their QC might be a bit complicated, not to mention the prevalence of fakes.
But you've prompted me to have a look at Uniqlo's jeans. Like their shirts and t-shirts, so will need to give their jeans a try.
I like the fit and feel of Gap jeans and it appears the wear rate is remarkably consistent too as the two pairs I bought around 4 years ago both went in the same place within a month of each other!
Replaced them with a pair from Massimo Dutti after being very pleased with a pair of their chinos. They feel nice on and time will tell as to the longevity. I prefer to try on before buying as like a lot of us here have cyclists legs so fit can be hugely subjective.

Becasue some folks prefer decent materials, made ethically (or as ethically as it's possible with cotton) that break in over years, and can last decades if looked after properly

That are often made in sweat-shops-in-all-but-name conditions with denim that made from intensively farmed cotton using scare water sources. The jeans are often thin and poor quality and last a couple of years if you're lucky and need replacing more often. By the time you've replaced your third pair of Next jeans, some folks expensive ones are only just nicely breaking in. The fact that some Tesco jeans come with a belt kinda reinforces the point
Personally, I'd prefer to have fewer but better made (and longer lasting) clothes. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford to shop like that.
I'm impressed with Camel Active jeans from a local outfitters a while ago.

Every pair of trousers I’ve owned (and most shorts) wear out there. It’s where the thighs rub together when walking. Pisses me off no end.
