During a family trip to Turtle Bay, i discovered i rather like rum.
Can anyone recommend some rums and where i can buy them?
Recommended, but not by purists: 1 pint glass with 1 inch of rum. Nearly as much Vimto.Top up with hot water and take into the bath on a wet cold Sunday lunch time whilst the lunch is being cooked for you. Also works on wet cold evenings
Which Turtle Bay? There are many....
My preferred rum is Mount Gay XO. Available from good bottle shops across the UK. Their 1703 is divine, but OTT, really.
Also good is Chairman's Reserve, from St Lucia. Often available in Waitrose, conveniently.
Serving? Large tumbler. Three or four large ice cubes. Splash. Sip. Repeat.
Woods. Tesco/asda et al
rumbullion, el dorado 12yo, the kraken, old j, old j tiki fire, doorly's,
Stroh, christ knows where you'd get that, the last lot came in a suit case on the way back from Austria

This + 1
The real stuff!
I have a bottle of Kraken on the go just now, It's not a patch on Woods Old Navy.
Kraken.
My favourite brands are
Brugal
Angostura
Kraken (great in a dark and stormy-try one, it will change your life)!!
Found Kraken too sweet, on it's own. For spiced 'rums' Bacardi Oakheart is actually very good.
Hell, how did I forget Woods !!
Ron Zacapa from Guatemala. I think someone on here recommended it is some time back & it really is superb.
In fact I think I'll have one right now
Hate to agree with Flashy but Mount Gay XO is lovely.
Agreed Jeffl
But Woods is better!
I can't believe its taken you this long!!!!

I recently did an overnight mtb bothy trip and didn't fancy lugging a rake of beer there. Anyhoo not a spirit drinker I picked a half bottle of old navy rum . I must say I enjoyed it but wasn't sure what to mix it with. I'll need to try the mount gay .
Mount Gay XO
Mix? MIX?
Seriously, mixers are OK with lambs or captain Morgan, but you'll destroy a good high end drink
wasn't sure what to mix it with
See above for the only acceptable serving suggestion. Unless you drink that spiced muck. Or, worse still, Bacardi.
Rum shall be dark. On ice.
you'll destroy a good high end drink
The same is true of any spirit.
If you're drinking it with Coke, any old cooking whisky / rum will do. If you're drinking the nice stuff then it generally shouldn't be adulterated.
Diplomatico... Outstanding 🙂
You can get it from

Message recieved and understood.
Rumbullion - Another spiced rum but bloody delicious https://www.majestic.co.uk/Rumbullion-zid50808
Cockspur, anything less horrible is just a 'training rum' for children.
If it doesn't taste like wood stain, it's not really rum.
My preferred rum is Mount Gay XO. Available from good bottle shops across the UK
Chin chin old boy, just about to,top my glass up for another
, well, dark to golden, see above.rum should be dark, on ice
Dark as opposed to white rum, Kryters.
I knew what was meant.
But thwre are various shades of dark, one can't have too much or two little, its all about the molasses, & oak content in the barrel.
So glad that's all sorted, now then, the peanuts to go with...
Pussers. Got a couple of bottles of the old stronger version to work through.
I can't believe I'm the only one to recommend Stroh 80...
Yeah that's 160% proof evaporating on your tongue taking your breath away 😆
Bundy*. Get the OP.
You can sing, dance, shout, fallover, fight all night on one bottle, and if there's any left you can run your car on it.
*Bundaberg Rum, made in Queensland.
23 yr old Ron Zacappa
Simply splendid. Costco do it for under £40 a bottle.
How the hell did i forget Bundaberg!!!

How the hell did i forget Bundaberg!!!
Oh, it's not hard. One bottle does that for me... 🙂
****ing amateurs! Ray and nephew for the win. Closely followed by woods, XO, Bundaberg, rumbullion etc..
Leftfield option - Matusalem 15yr (or the 7yr / Clasico - it's all good value). Only ever seen in Dubai duty free so I pick up a bottle for a friend when I'm passing through.
I'm not much of a connoisseur but I dig this,

Stroh, for those who didn't know, is an Austrian 'Rum', I bought some from Graz. The Austrians I spoke to were horrified that we were just going to drink it - they consider it to be more-or-less exclusively an ingredient for baking...
Mount Gay and tonic....lush and no hangovers! 8)
This is the only rum I have tasted, only because it was free at many sailing events I raced at. I do remember vividly the colour of the sky, the wind and the motion of the yacht I was racing on after a night in the yacht club drinking this stuff.
I've never touched it since.
If budget permits then this bad boy is worth ever penny: Diplomatico
The Austrians in the hydraulic industry my brother in law was schmoozing to buy UK PTFE hose were knocking back a measure after a ski run to ward off the cold, that's how we were introduced to it... Yeah it's more traditional in baking though! To me that's a waste as the taste is sublime
Bacardi? 😈
Diplomatico.
