300!

I sat and watched this in Vienna last month (in German) and spent the next day reading Wikipedia. Ended up with about 30 tabs open ranging from the battle itself to the expansion of the visigoths....
It's a great film..as is the follow up.
Have a listen to the radio4 in our time podcast on Sparta and Thermopylae too.
Did anyone else find the production so overbearing and scripting so superficial that the movie was virtually unwatchable?
I was most disappointed.
No.,.it was ace
Fantastic but very stylised production, a bit like Sin City? Both movies are awesome though. I have to say that Gerard Butler seems made for that part

Hook, line and sinker. ๐ ^^^
I really love the production. One of my favourite films.
This time though it was interesting to watch in the current political climate. Obviously the film is taken to cinematic fantasy extremes, however I was wondering how many European people think the Persians in the film are like those from Syria now.
The film has Persians drowning at sea in a storm, a clash of cultures, seemingly benign god kings, shady creatures from the middle east, someone radicalized after being outcast by his own people.
Was it Churchill who said it was the most important battle in British history?
Yup, had the Persians beaten the Greeks western civilisation would look a lot different. It gave time for the evacuation of Athens and the battle if Salamis.
It's a great film..as is the follow up.
