My new Dovre Vintage 50 stove has arrived. The 18 ton delivery truck couldn't get up our road so we got it in the back of the Discovery. It weighs a ton, and is built like an AGA. No chance of lifting it by hand so I had to fire up the Fergie to get it out of the Discovery and into the house.

It reminds me of when I went to pick up a Stovax with the father in law in his Escort van. The last words the bloke in the warehouse said were “Careful on the brakes boys, if that slides forward it will f#cking kill you”. A very tense 30 mile drive followed.

It took 4 of us with scaffold poles to get it in the house.

mcmoonter is RICH!

If I were, my tractor tyres wouldn't be bald and perished, and I'd have a man to install it for me!

For the record it cost way more than my car and it's the first new thing I've bought in years!

I'm seeing pop up adverts for AGAs on STW, surely a first. 😯

That's the set top ariel. It's too retro for a dish and it's only got three channels, all in black and white.

It's in!

We used a combination of a trolley and carpet surfing to get it in place.

Bloody hell it's hot. It's rated at 11kw max, and something like 9kw ticking over. It's using bardly any fuel compared to the open fire. We might need to think about replacing our 70s stove in the hall. Thee new ones are so much more efficient.

Hortus = posh 🙂

In the absence of professional installation can I suggest that sir invests in a CO detector?

You absolutely must put up a picture when it's in situ. it's the STW law 🙂

Also, it looks a bit out of character with the fireplace. Are you going to do it up?

It's in the Georgian part of the house which was built in 1712, it was last modernised early in the 20th century. Installing a retro style stove is modernisation at Moonter towers.

mcmoonter - you are one of the reasons I still stay on STW, as it's not always the friendliest of places imo 🙂

Cant believe I still have mine lit and it's nearly june! brrrr

One unfortunate effect of the stove popularity.. noticed loads of new gates going up around these parts as tree theft is now out of control.

Nice burner BTW

Its my belief that tossing the caber originally developed as a way to get stolen logs over deer fences.

Works too 🙂
