I once advertised a flat rental on gummy, OMG I must have got 100 strange email requests. So I just asked every emailer to bring ID in the form of passport to the viewing.
How many replied?

Oh they were scammers alright - anyone legit would have been happy to supply proof of ID to get an iPad they'd just paid for. I offered to post, they refused (addresses they gave eBay and paypal were dodgy) . I offer to meet up to exchange, again they refused.
In the end they got scammed. I'm fine with that.

As long as it wasn't a hacked PayPal account, and someone innocent lost £300, I'm fine with it too 😉
Used Gumtree today for the first time. Listed my mums sofa and an hour later had this now familiar email from a Julie Fisher. Was this the same person ?

I have a courier agent that would help me to pick it up at your preferred location after you have received your money and i'll pay you via PayPal today.
Where is the pick up location so that i can inform the courier agent about it now?

So I've just had the same email in reply to a bike I'm selling on Gumtree. Thing is, it's the same email word for word so I'd expect it to be the same person or people doing it. Shouldn't be hard to catch them, right? Unless *literally* no one is stupid enough to fall for it and therefore no theft has ever taken place.
I'm baffled as to who trawls gumtree doing this, if it's worth their while how they haven't been caught, and if it isn't worth their while... Ok I'm going to concentrate on something more productive now.
I think they go to scamming school in Nigeria where they are given specimen letters.
Actually, I reckon the scammers are being scammed by the "school" who will have taken Naira off them for the use of the computers, some tuition etc. all on the promise of getting rich quick.
....a bit like giving money to an employment consultant then.

MrsAlias calls me 0700 on Bank Holiday Monday to tell me that her friend seems to be in trouble, broken leg, in hospital, on a borrowed phone, needs a top up voucher gives me the number and asks me to sort it out as she is about to start work.
To be fair to my missus, the text reads just like it is actually from her friend, waffle-y emotional, etc
Worse than that, MrsAlias texts her 'friend' back giving her my number and saying that i will sort it out.
I call the number, several times, answerphone, about to give up and go to work when i get a text saying "Can you help. X". I call again, no answer.
When i leave work just after lunch, i get another text, "I need a t-mobile voucher, could you get me £20. X"
I say of course, ask where she is, "you can just text me the code to this number"
I get home, get online, buy a voucher and send the code(dumbass)
"Thank you. Went on OK x"
All good, all quiet. Then fifteen minutes later i get two messages simultaneously, the first from the scammer, "I dont believe it, its just taken £15 off for extras, can i be a total pain and could you get me another, Will give you the £40"
ok - now i realise
The other message, from my missus reads "I think it was a wrong number, her husband says she has not broken her leg"
One of the few people i trust without question, has just helped screw me.
AND gave my phone nubmer. See what happens when you work a bank holiday. Worse when the few pennies you earn, you give away to a fluffy bunny.
