Just had the following email from my kids primary school

We request that Buffs are worn around the neck and not on the head

There have been a few incidents where pupils have used Buffs for innapropriate role play involving racial references.

Seriously, WTF? Are they pretending to be jihadists?

Possibly but the only people who can answer are the school

We request that Buffs are worn around the neck and not on the head

Next there will be a health and safety note on the dangers of strangulation.

PC gone mad. It's the specific game playing which is racist not the headware.

I got a free one with the entry to a race I did on Saturday, it was pink and I gave it to my daughter when she asked for it - should I now be worried?

Should you not have given the pink buff to your son? Sexist of you to assume your daughter should have it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Schools are bloody crazy with this religious sensitivity. Remember my kid getting in trouble for his "bindi" joke?

As an aside, the Gideons were in my kid's school last week giving out bibles - is this a normal thing??

sadly, yes.

I often wonder how many of those things get binned every September.

Great, we've solved racism, ban buffs and it'll go away!

Or rather, allow people to wear buffs how they wish, but teach them not to judge people because they belong to a different tribe...

We've kept the kids Gideon bibles so we can pop them in their bedside cabinets when they start treating us like a hotel.....

Suggest that the school uses the opportunity for children to learn about global citizenship, racism and how to make social judgements?

innapropriate

Spelling! Must try harder.

Mind you, if the school are preoccupied with hand-wringing over kids' games, then maybe spelling and other education can go hang(?)

I shall look back on this thread fondly next time I'm being lambasted on a political thread by a tag team of big hitters.

If there were no Jihadists then kids wouldn't wouldn't know about them so wouldn't copy their dress sense (?)

Didn't ST used to have an ad in the magazine for the ST buff that had Mark wearing it many different ways?

I'm also wondering why they needed to email parents. Surely the head teacher could just say "I'm the head. I don't like it. You will be in trouble if you disobey".

Or is that old-fashioned?
