What with a million cereals, porridge, cooked breakfasts and those folks who skip what is allegedly the most important meal of the day, does anyone actually have jam anymore? Seems like such an olde worlde thing to partake in first thing.
I’d posit jam is only for posh people to have with scones and afternoon tea.
For the record I am not sure if I am including marmalade in this situation.
I thought we were all having jam tomorrow
My daughter would most certainly disagree with you. She can even eat the jam from all the holes in a crumpet.
nom.
I’ve been having jam sandwiches for lunch some days recently and people in the office have almost laughed at me thinking it’s a kids thing!
They are LOVELY. A nice strawberry jam sandwich is a wonderful thing and can’t help cheer you up.
I should have added children as the other exception.
The answer is yes, and marmalade even more so.
My son loves jam, and has it on toast for brekkie. I typically have it on scones or croissants. Sometimes on porridge.
Its something I only buy these days if we've got people coming to stay, on a 'just in case they don't like marmite' basis.

Its a very one-dimensional flavour - i think people's palate has changed.
Not in our house.
"Carluke Steak" is the most commonly requested breakfast of the youngest panthercub.

Have you really just said that??
Peoples palates haven’t changed, they’ve just got too up themselves to still enjoy simple foods that have been round forever - just cos something is traditional/old/simple doesn’t mean it isn’t delicious!
Maybe the Beeb should do so more coverage of it.
Me, I regularly have jame and toast for breakfast.
Is jam going out of fashion?
No, it's just.... going underground....
Here all week etc, try the jam.

One letter away from breakfast, one letter away from man-love.
Mackays rhubard and ginger jam on toast for the win.
I recently got a jar of Lime Marmalade for the firsat time in years - white bread toasted, cold butter from the fridge and topped with a layer of lime marmalade - fantastic.
We all have a secret crush Perchy.
😆
yeah I have Jam on toast for breakfast all the time.
& in scotland a jam sandwich is called a 'Jammy piece' 😀 which I always used to have for supper.
What the actual what? This place gets funnier by the day. 🙂
We have two opened jars of jam in the fridge (black cherry and strawberry), one in the cupboard unopened (raspberry) and an opened jar of marmalade in the fridge as well (three fruits: lemon, lime and grapefruit). They're all "taste the difference" style as jam is one of those items its worth spending more on.
Everyone I know eats jam.
I have never been a massive fan or jam, but my mum made some fantastic blackcurrant jam this year.
It's a world away from anything you buy in the shops.

Well, there's another can of worms.
Fridge or cupboard for opened jam?
"Carluke Steak" is.......Lorne? Maybe?
I hardly ever eat bread, let alone jam.
I have got a loaf in the freezer and some marmalade in the fridge if I do fancy a piece of toast on the weekend. Jam - have never bought it.
Cos you know, I'm too "up myself". 😕
Fridge or cupboard for opened jam?
Fridge for marmalade, or it gets a layer of mould on the top. (Which my old man used to scrape off to spread the stuff below onto his toast 🙂 )
What a bunch of bollocks.
Homemade blackcurrant FTMFW.

Carluke Steak is a piece 'n' jam.
Historical repast of the impoverished and Carluke has always had (and still has) a Jam factory.
indeed, the jar does state 'keep in the fridge' but that is just wrong. Cold jam on warm toast!? WRONG!
I finished jam but it is less common. More for cream tea than anything as a treat.
Jan deffo needs fridgimifying. Also, if you see mould on it, bin it, as the mould grows through the Jan, not just on top.
Whilst we're on the subject of fridges, what doesn't need to live in the fridge is bloody eggs. Zero need whatsoever.
Strawberry jam and cheese is where it's at.

Why do they give you an egg holder for the door then?
Confused 🙄

Stops in February tho?

Creme eggs.
Someone needs to have doggycam sectioned. 😀
I've been in Spain a fair bit lately, jam seems to be on the decline there as well. There seems to be fashion (it's not a new thing, just back in fashion) for olive oil and grated tomato on toast for breakfast.
Its actually really nice, I'm a bit addicted to it at the moment.

Indeed.
My toddler could eat an entire loaf of 'jammie toast'
I often have 4 rounds and an expresso before a hard early morning ride
So not out of fashion in our household...

Training facility for the Weeble Winter Olympics
I love jam pie
Sometimes on porridge.
forgotten that, thanks!

Apart from the fact I hate tomatoes, how do you grate a tomato? I suspect you may grate one or two passes of tomato skin and then crush the rest in your fist?
Bloody heathens you'll be telling me no-one likes Marmalade next...
We make loads of jam each year, blackberry, elderberry, crab apple jelly. And no I'm not in my 70's
Also, if you see mould on it, bin it, as the mould grows through the Jan, not just on top.
My old man woulda just laughed at you. He's dead now though.. coincidence?
