My winter weight goretex is a heavy duty French military surplus camo jacket. As waterproof jacket it it perfect for todays weather; 45kts wind and driving heavy rain, plus it's big enough to not impede the lofting of a down jacket as a mid layer.

There is one downside and it has epaulets with poppers, and the poppers are exactly where rucksack straps want to lie. As a result, it gets quite uncomfortable quite quickly.

I'm tempted to drill out the riveted poppers on the shoulders but this will leave 2x 5mm holes on the shoulder. To solve this I could apply a pair of Iron on goretex patches to the inside of the fabric.

Has anyone used these before and could comment on there reliability / durability bearing in mind they'll be in quite a high wear bit of the jacket?

Thanks

I’ve got one stuck on a pair of waterproof trousers I snagged at one point - still there 10 years later. Ironing them makes them pretty permanent.

I put one on an eVent jacket I put a hole in 10 years ago, it's still there
