Pah hard to see why you'd pay the premium for the 7 when the 6 is more than enough for most or alternatively there are plenty of other companies making great phones at nothing like these inflated prices.
Jesus those prices are ridiculous. Is the storage capacity the only difference between the models?
If so then that's absurd. £200 difference for an extra 224GB of storage?
I could buy a complete 960GB SATAIII SSD drive for that much!
Sony and I think Samsung have managed to make waterproof phones with standard phone jacks...works brilliantly. No need for any fancy solution for a problem that isn't there. Does allow another marketing spin and spend opportunity though.
Learning from the world of mtbs they've realised that dumping a perfectly good solution to instead create a new 'standard' is a license to print money 😉 👿
Sad to see one of the few proper lasting standards fall. And it was always good that no matter what device you had, you knew that your headphones would fit it and work.
Despite being a fan of apple products I'll be sticking with my 64GB 5S, I bought it when it was first released and i have no wish for a larger phone/faster processor/better camera etc but I could be interested in the 42mm aluminium watch/sport strap combo.

They're not iOS though, It just quietly does what it does & doesn't create a fuss. Android however.....

"It just quietly does what it does" What in the hell does that mean? Do you work for apple marketing?
I have both android and apple phones.
I prefer the adroid becasue it "just does it" (or is that some other company's marketing tag line...?)... 🙄
think this sums it up really and a nice summar of what even the die hards are thinking in this thread
But Dr Glance said it probably doesn't matter what Apple reveals."There aren't enough markets nor enough reasons for people to change, irrespective even if they radically changed it," he said.
"They're not going to come out with a feature that's going to be sufficiently different to persuade (consumers) who wouldn't normally change, to suddenly change."
According to Dr Glance, most people are no longer upgrading their phones on a yearly basis. That's a problem for Apple.

Lol! 😆 Just an Apple/iPhone fan. My experience of Android phones was never a happy one! iOS just works. I have NEVER had to turn off my iPhone (or in the case of Android had to remove the battery!) because the OS decided to take a dump on me! Each to their own 😀

Nice.... well done. Last time I turned my phone off was getting on a plane, that is becoming a very rare occurance these days too.
Pricing irrelevant as 99% of the handsets will be sold as a contract
No new MacBooks? Arse
Pricing irrelevant as 99% of the handsets will be sold as a contract
sauce?? whats irrelevant? That people are not wanting to upgrade as often - it is a huge problem for an industry that relies on shipping units that does not have an ever expanding customer base.
I'm meant to be getting one because it's a scheduled upgrade at work but not particularly excited about it and I still do most stuff on my personal android.
Earbud thingys - I never use the Apple ones because they fall straight out of my ears. Not a big deal as they are only 10 quid type things and I have a drawer full of other ones (generally the ones recommended on here, Sennheiser etc). But if I have to dump unused 150 quid wireless ones straight away, that's a bit of a waste!

Don't buy them.
I think they will see a lot of people sign up for the Apple upgrade program. You can get a 7 for around £30 a month over 12 months and either a sim only or PAYG sim deal on top could work out a bit cheaper than most 24 month contracts. The real bonus for the fanbois is that you will just finish paying for the last one when the next one comes out.
ive been waiting for the 7 to see how much the 5SE comes down in price. ready to upgrade my 5C but im 4" for evs!
I was keeping an eye on what the latest phone would be and was kind of disappointed that they still have the protruding camera lens, it is one of the reasons I am still using my 5S.
Although I wasn't expecting an announcement, I have been waiting on a new macbook refresh since the turn of the year.
Why all the shock and surprise that a new Apple product release hasn't unveiled any ultra new tech nobody has ever envied or dreamt up before? Since when were Apple innovative in terms of new tech? they were late to the party with MP3 players, tablets and smart phones. They're innovation has always been about taking existing risk free tech and making it nice, desirable and robust and reliable in terms of just working. They've been this long enough now so any exclamations of surprise and disappointment are a bit hard to believe. They're marketeers first and foremost. You don't sell a billion iPhones by having clever leading edge tech - since when were consumers really interested in the functionality of their product? And since when were premium products actually 'better' than cheaper ones. You sell a billion iPhones by making them desirable. Just like £7k mountain bikes over £1.5k ones, BMW's £30k over £16 Kia's, £70 Levi jeans over £25 Sainsbury's own brand.
The upgrade programme looks good if you really want a replacement that frequently. Really just like leasing a car - what's the point in actually owning the product when all you want is the use of them.
The elimination of the 3.5mm jack was inevitable and the worst kept secret this century. I struggle with the Apple ear buds too, but I think the weight of the wire ultimately pulls them out, especially when walking or running. I bet if these wireless ones are light enough they'll stay in OK. But a steep price as, but then again, they're not just earbuds. Nice bit of kit but my iPhone 5 is still going strong for now, as is my 2009 Macbook. Eventually the iPhone will get replaced with another iPhone for sure - too many people I know fought against the Apple thing and got Android continually slating Apple, but after a while came round to Apple and had to acknowledge that the iPhone was better in the end. I think people getting iPhones for work phones has helped that more than anything.
The dilemma I will have is about the replacement of my MacBook. With the latest ones having tiny hard drives i'm contemplating replacing the MacBook with an iPad Pro and sticking all my files on my NAS drive rather than using it as a back up device. I can see MacBooks and MacBook pro's being discontinued apart from a range of ultra expensive and super powerful Mac Pro and MacBook Pro's aimed squarely at industrial and professional machines. As soon as people wean themselves off keyboards and become used to a touch screen as their default interface with technology then a laptop will just seem like a ridiculous, slow and combersome thing.
sauce?
well none, but you can bet that the figures for people who go the upgrade route via contract and vastly outweigh the number of people who buy the phone unlocked from an Apple store
so the fact that the phone costs £x is irrelevant to most of the punters because that cost is wrapped up in a monthly payment
Don't buy them
Can I buy a phone without them?
Yes, the phone comes with the lightning headphones and the lightning to headphone jack adaptor. The airpods are sold seperately
Can I buy a phone without them?
They don't come as standard.
Aah. Ok. Sorry. My mistake 🙁
Regarding the Apple Upgrade Program, I can't quite work out if it is a good deal or not as I think it is just some clever marketing spin. Basically at the lowest level you have to buy the £599 iPhone and £119 for apple care. You then pay £49 upfront and sign a 20 month del at £33. After 11 months you can upgrade but all that means is that you hand the phone back and sign a new 20 month agreement and pay the £49 upfront fee again. You don't seem to get anything for free and it just locks you in to Apple as if you upgrade each time at best you always owe Apple 9 months of payments.
If you have the cash could you not just do the same by financing it yourself out of say savings and then selling your phone back to Apple each year. For instance my 2 yr old iPhone 6 they are offering to buy for £236. How is the upgrade program any better?
Also why the 11 months and 20 months, as iPhones are upgraded every 12 months. There has to be some thing here that benefits Apple.
Am I reading all this wrong and it is actually a good deal.
Incremental changes as expected.
Monthly plan could possibly be interesting as I buy my oen phones and fo sim only, I think a plan with a new phone every 2 years at lower price would interest more.
Whats the view on the repair / Apple Care changes ?
How is the upgrade program any better?
It's alternative.
Wireless headphones.... can you use them on a plane? Flight mode normally switches wireless, inc BT, off.
Wireless is allowed on some planes, it's how most deliver in flight entertainment to your own devices these days and plenty of long haul actually has WiFi on the plane.
Bluetooth use varies by airline. Obviously, this doesn't apply to the IFE, for which you'll need a cable, and in some cases a two prong adapter. On a 3.5mm jack.....
Makes you wonder why they bothered with the earphones, considering they are not shipped with the phone and they own a headphone company - albeit one with a different brand image
Pricing irrelevant as 99% of the handsets will be sold as a contract
Only in the same way that the total price of your house is irrelevant because most people pay for it monthly 😀
The cost of the handsets has to be met somewhere.
Personally I haven't had a phone as part of a contract for years. I just buy the handset outright. But I accept that may not be normal.
I cant work out that upgrade plan either.
I have a one year contract and sell my phone at the end of it to pay for the new one and offset the higher cost of the 12 month contract. Last year at the start of my contract I paid around £200 for the handset and I have just sold it for £410. The price apple give you against the upgrade seems to be nowhere near the price I have just got.
From the brief look I have had i would be paying £45 per month just for the phone then have to get a contract on top. plus the £50 upgrade fee at the end and I wont have a phone to sell a the end either.
I'm confusing myself. I need to have a proper read.

[/img]It's not about you it's about them getting people back into a 12 months upgrade cycle. If all the people who are buying smart phones have one then you need to persuade them to by more smart phones.

I've got a mate who's fiancée, soon to be Wife is exactly like this when it comes to Apple stuff.
She referred to my phone as 'your shitty android phone' last time I was visiting them.
Yes, my phone that I pay £18/month for with loads of minutes & texts and unlimited data...that does everything I need it to do.
My mate reckons her iphone contract is costing her £50/month, so I'm getting almost 3 years of phone ownership to her one year and he's already had to bail her out of a load of CC debt that she was struggling to clear....
Not read the entire thread but having had time to thing about it, the main problem for me at least has just hit me. I'm currently sat at my desk with my phone on charge, as it always is. I also have my earphones in so that I can listen to music and talk to people whilst the phone is charging. Today I'll likely have the ear phones in for around 8 hours, 3 of which I'll be talking on the phone, 5 of which I'll be listening to music.
Can someone here/from Apple explain how I would do this with the new phone? And Ideally I'd like an answer that isn't "buy 2 sets of wireless buds so 1 set is on charge whist the other is in use".
^ pass-through lightening cable or Apple dock for regular wired 'phones.

^ [s]pass-through lightening cable or Apple dock[/s] Buy more shiny thing to make shiny thing work .
FTFY.
Lightning dock looks like a possible but that's another £40 to spend. Pass through cable just means I can use wired earphones doesn't it? I can't charge the phone whilst using them though unless I've missed something.
😉 @ CFH riposte.
Ok: "stick with existing device"?
So how much a month are these wonderess things going to be on contract?
Currently I pay £32 a month for my 6.
fanboi or hater?
i'd say on balance, more haters than fanbois

A LOT.
Admittedly this is business phone rates, but one of our sub-let offices belongs to a business mobile guy - we're all due new phones this month so were hoping for 7s to replace our dying 6s - the cheapest 7 is £599 for the 32GB, when 6s were new the 64GB ones were £520 so that's what we had.
In order to get a 7 without paying cash upfront for it he reckons you're looking at a £65 a month tarrif 24 months- which gives you 25GB data, unlimited calls and texts, which is a bloody lot of money, especially given Apple say they only build them to last 18 months.
I'm due to renew my contract and obviously have the option of the 7 as and when it becomes available. My HTC M8 is buggered since the latest android update and is now super slow. I'm not bothered about a 7 but had considered the 6s.
However the bit that bugs me most about Apple devices is the need for a specific cable to charge them. At the moment I have a charger at home, a charger on my desk and one in the car. From this I can charge my Garmin, my phone, my watch, my bike lights and various other devices. Should I go for a 6s or 7 I'd need three new cables in addition to the mini usb ones I have now for everything else. Not to mention Apple cables break if you look at them funny.
As for the removal of the headphone jack, what an utter joke. Chucking a lightening port thing in the box isn't a fix, its another bit of the phone you need to carry round and I'm assuming remove if you need to charge your phone. Its not the end of the world but its yet another thing to lose (which I'm very good at doing).
I'll wait for the new HTC to be made available and will go for that. I've had an S7 edge thing and it was crap, the worst of everything.

Go Nexus. The 6p does need a new cable (USB C) but it's clean, simple and good.
