Right now I've decided to go for iPhone, is it the 5 or 4s?!! £60 more expensive upfront for 5 and at least £5 per month dearer for tariff but is it worth it over the 4s?
Chambo, if you can afford it, go for the iP5. The 4S is now older tech, and the 5 has the latest processor and GPU, which are very fast indeed, bench tests have rated it equivalent to my 03 MBP, so you have a phone with the performance of a professional spec laptop that cost me £2500!
The camera is superb, you get a better panoramic function that takes a pano in one shot, and face recognition.
That's not to say that there's anything wrong with the 4S, it's still a damned good, tough phone that will do everything you want it to do, and do it well. I went from the 4 to the 5, so I noticed the differences a lot more.
The 5's significantly lighter, too.
I've changed my mind after buying the HTC 8X and using it for a day or two. It's useless - the build is good but the software is awful. It has massive account syncing problems; the sync app for Windows 7 just bombs out with a 15 digit error code when you try to install it; the Xbox music bit doesn't work; it won't install some apps; and the tile colours are ever so slightly too dark making text difficult to see.
What with your findings and the now acknowledged random reboots issue

it turns out I was right and did know what I was talking about after all then?
