Google says.

Oh and iOS itself only updates if you tell it to.

I've been using the GM since it was released to developers last week. No issues which was a nice surprise.

BEFORE YOU UPDATE:

Go to Settings->General->About->Applications

And read the list of apps you currently have installed that are NOT compatible with iOS11 or will make it run slowly.

38 on my list at the moment. I'll hold off for a bit (I always do anyway).

Just a heads up, the beta version of 11 is noticeably slower than 10 on my iPhone 6, no idea if it's a widespread issue or if the release version will be the same.

The latest beta is the GM. So will be the same as what came out today.

Ooooh! Shiny.

All the apps I use regular all updated, plus I stopped worry too much about waiting as they update any major issues quickly after long test periods it’s nearly always stable.

Despite saying many times I wouldn't, I've drived in with iOS11 (and TVOS11 when I get 5).

Good luck everyone!

Only 5 for me Gee - none of which I recognised anyway. Onbviously a few of those that got downloaded, used once or twice then consigned to the last screen 😆

You're using an iPhone3GS aren't you? 🙂

i don't even use 38 apps, never mind having 38 that will be out of date

is there more than 15/20 apps worth using?

I'm pretty sure I read that this version wont support any 32 bit apps - so if you are still using those then the will never be supported on iOS 11. Probably not a big isue for most peopole though.

I like the new flip up menu and my Apple TV has stopped making my speakers buzz so I’m happy so far.

Yup the taskbar is pretty cool. I’ll be testing drag and drop tomorrow when I’m training.

Granted most of my 38 out-of-date apps I wouldn't miss that much (mostly occasional games and stuff to keep the kids amused) but some I'd quite like to keep:

SynthCam - takes nice synthesised shallow focus and tilt-shift photos by combining multi angle shots
MAVideo - motion-activated video recorder. Useful sometimes.
OSMTrack - used to records GPS traces for OpenStreetMap
Pushpin - used to edit POI for OpenStreetMap
SnowForecast - ski reports
Civilisation Revolution - mobile version of Civ (good for long flights etc)
Gourmet Society - quick look up of restaurants where the card is valid
PlayTales - interactive stories for the kids
Humax Remote - for when I can't find the real one
Met Office - for the weather obv
BLE Utility/nRF UART/nRF Utility - Bluetooth diagnostics stuff that I use for work to test Bluetooth, simulate BLE devices etc
Resistor - nice simple resistor decoder
Skyfire - my secondary browser of choice for gentleman's pursuits

Like it so far, had to reduce the text size but new fonts are bold and clear 🙂 a few older apps don’t work but very rarely used them anyway, “retro” phone signal strength graphic !

If you have an app that has not been compiled with a 64bit binary then it must be really quite neglected by the developer by now.

Works fine on my SE but appears to be a massive battery drain.
If I'm light on use at work I usually go home with 70-80% battery left, I've been at work half an hour so far and I'm down to 90% already, not looking good.

@deviant.

I had the same. What you will probably see is the battery dive off a cliff then stop at 3/4% for several hours (5 in my case). I think it’s just the battery recalibrating. I let mine run till it died, full charge over night and will see what happens today.

SE as well.

I think it’s just the battery recalibrating.

Theres also often a lot of background tasks going on for quite some time after an upgrade

That would explain an increase of usage, but not the misreporting of battery life. That’s a calibration issue which should self right itself after a full discharge/charge.

Hopefully.

re battery issues - as an example, the action centre toggle does NOT disable bluetooth if you find that re enabled upon updating as I did despite never using bluetooth products)- go into settings and you'll find it still on. Its worth googling/ youtubing battery tips for ios11- I've always done that and there's a bunch of things to turn off that you genuinely don't need (looking at you ad tracking location etc) take a moment and look them up, you'll be surprised what is running you don't need. And no, it doesn't cripple the phone. Never found anything unusable after turning the majority of location and background tasks off etc.

Battery calibration is NOT the solution, unless your phone is only 24 hours old. Proactively look up the tasks that use battery resources and turn them off.

I've had to turn the animations off it was messing with my eyes 😕

Seemed slow at first but ok now, will keep an eye on the battery, I reckon this will probably the last update I do on this phone (iphone 6)

Going to have a proper play at lunch time, see if the file thing is as useless as I suspect.

A couple of games and a geocache app are the only ones that don't work for me. No issue deleting any of them.

Will likely wait until 11.01 is released that removes the first bugs, that'll presumably be out by what, tomorrow?!

If the developers that made MyFitnessPal haven’t been bothered to update it that’s pretty terrible. It quite widely used why would they not maintain it ?
