I’ve got my hat on too. I watched RoboCop at 13 and it scared the bejesus out of me when he got shot up. 11? Eeesh.
That, and when the guy gets splatted by the car after getting covered in acid.
We went with T2, he’s enjoying it!
I've been watching Sabrina with my 12yr old, it's not as twee as I remember from when I was a kid
‘American Werewolf’
The bit where they are in the cinema and the blonde girl, covered in blood, is cheerily talking.
That absolutely cracked me up.

Emile, get your arse in the van.
I used to know every line of dialogue from Robocop. Loved it as a kid and appreciate the dark humour now. The adverts are brilliant.
I'd buy that for a dollar.
I got this problem, I don't like cops, and cops don't like me.
I'm gonna have to re watch robocop now!
Very good film when you think about it. Police owned by private companies, or segments sold off to contractors.. It does have a very good story despite it being an action film.
I think I was 11 when I saw Robocop. I then remember buying it HMV in Nottingham when I was about 13, staff were a bit more laid back then 🙂 Had a massive poster of Robocop in my room when I was about 12. My parents were obviously not as strict as I remember! Loved going up to the video shop and picking an inappropriate film to watch with my mates.
T2 good choice.
Next one - Tremors or Big Trouble in Little China
You lot are lame. Child needs nightmares; The Thing (the one with Kurt Russell)
IANAP
Failing that, do what my parents did to me, and make him watch Sapphire and Steel. I still get the heebie jeebies about old railway stations at night (I work for NR!).
Haha the splattering was awesome. Great film, Starship Troopers works on the same level.
Man Bites Dog.
On the other hand has zero redeeming qualities to it. Someone wanted to watch it for their birthday as is was "funny as ****". Awkward wasn't the right word. I suppose if you find rape funny then I guess it would work. For those who haven't seen it think What We Do In The Shadows but not funny. That's not to say its a bad film but not something I'd recommend.
Tremors is a really good shout, absolutely classic!
So much violent, sexist, stereotyping machismo euro centric nonsense, might as well get a "snuff movie".
Or Queen of Katwe fwiw
The Night Comes For Us. Netflix.
28 days later.
It’s got zombies, bit of potential child rape and bad folk getting their cummupance.
Plus, it’s beautifully shot...

First Blood, great film. Should’ve ended it the same way as the book though.
I've not read the book, but First Blood is one of the greatest films no-one has ever seen. It is to Rambo as The Terminator is to Judgement Day.
It's a bit like Alien to Aliens, only with the exception that Aliens is better.
Also, whilst we're talking about classic movies from 'that' era,
Escape From New York.
Highlander.
In fact, Christ man, what's wrong with you. Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Back to the Future, there's a goldmine here.

Fist bump Cougar. It really is a brilliant film.
If you’re intent on freaking your son out OP there is only one option.......
Watership Down
Porkies followed by Porkies 2, then you can have that dad talk about the birds and the bees.
JAWS next...
What I didn’t understand was the desire to watch an ‘inappropriate’ film, when there are so many great appropriate films.
I’d have suggested: The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938).
I also had a RoboCop obsession after the film. Posters everywhere, and the Amiga game was one of few I completed.
Remember watching RoboCop 3, though. That's enough for nightmares but purely because it's so awful.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show

We've watched and enjoyed all of those.

This is sort of the point of the thread I had forgotten how rough Robocop was.
I watched Robocop when I was about 14. The scene in the beginning where they shoot him, that really upset me, for quite a few years. It's very very nasty.
A scene doesn't need fake gore to make it hard to watch.
I think I was 13 or 14 when I first saw Robocop on a bad pirate copy, complete with Chinese subtitles and terrible dubbing over the sweary bits, the not-even-trying-to-mimic-the-voice-being-overdubbed sort of terrible- "die, you blaggard" has stuck in my memory as a particularly good one 😆
Oooh, for next time, what about a video nasty? The Stuff or Re-Animator are ace/terrible.
and no one has mentioned 9 1/2 Weeks, Blue Orchid or Poison Ivy yet? For shame.
Yep that scene affected me as well. Most of the others were cartoon violence, but Murphy being shot was tough. Suspect I'd still flinch at that on a rewatch.
The joy of inappropriate films when your young is obviously the thrill of something illicit. Don't worry I still saw Teenwolf, Back to the Future, Star Wars, Indy and all the others and loved them too, in fact more so as I keep returning to them. Escapism when you're young is the strange adult world, now I'm old I enjoy kids movies more 🙂 probably due to Stockholm syndrome after having three kids...
From your list, Predator! As an 11 year old, Arnie films are just great - cheesy, lots of action, and compared to more modern action films, not quite as gory as you remember.
Common Sense Media again - spoiler alert!! 😉
Parents say 13+ Kids say 13+
Parents need to know that Predator is a macho sci-fi action adventure with lots of bloody violence -- not to mention artillery and gun fetishism (although, in the end, it's the low-tech death traps that prove most effective...). The villain is a laser-wielding alien that cuts down many of the heavily armed heroes, leaving hideously skinned corpses in its wake. Lots of strong language; some drinking, smoking, and drug references. The lone female character doesn't get much to do compared to star Arnold Schwarzenegger and his fellow male soldiers.

Good thing with a lot of these 80's films is there's nack-all commercialism other than a pack of Marlboro fags.
The thing you should bear in mind, when you watched Robocop at 11 it was on a shonky VHS where half the time you had to guess what was going on. It might be a bit more graphic in HD.
Predator is great though.
And as no one has said them:
The Bourne / Identity / Ultimatum / Supremacy
The Hunt For Red October
The Matrix

NO! you cannot waste The Matrix on an 11 year old. Its way too deep and intellectual for them to fully appreciate.
