or do a site specific google search.

Adding site:singletrackworld.com to your search string will do this.

That's what I always do.

I've been here quite a while now, probably 6 years or so, and I've not really noticed any massive difference without Fred (who I've met IRL) and TJ, I found the threads easy to avoid if one desired.

I do think it's a friendly forum in general, but actually found people like GW more offensive as he just turned up being unpleasant on virtually every thread!

Just had a look as the STW.Argue on FB.

Its my opinion that the baiters should have been banned too.

One did. But toadied his or her way back a few days later. Goodness knows what they wrote in mitigation but I'm pretty sure it won't have been short and succinct. 🙂

Threads depend on the members creating them or making them interesting, arguing and bitchy making posts over 1000 does not make a good forum.

So if you'd like more interesting threads then start one.

TJ's problem was that he was sufficiently passionate/single-minded/immature/pigheaded (choose accordingly to your charitableness) to not be able to comprehend other people might have opinions different to his own that they have come to not because they were uninformed or ignorant but because they just thought differently to him. He had little respect for differing opinions, often crossed the line into insulting, and was deluded enough to think that constant arguing, come backs and having the last word was going to win people over. He was the archetypal pub bore who in the real world you would quietly sidle away from but in forum world gets equal status to bang on and on and on and on and on.....

They - well, Fred in particular - would love the fact people are still sitting round debating the whole ban thang. Attention whores the pair of them ... and look what they're receiving now.

What a sad, sad little man he is.

Fred Defence Flag Wave:

That sounds more than a little patronising to me.

Aziz suffers (by his own admission - I'm not being intrusive, here) from ADHD.

It's probably why he was tolerated for so long by the [s]camp guards[/s] moderators, but it eventually made a rod for his own back - I'm assuming that one of the side-effects of ADHD is that the sufferer is unable to recognise when they've gone too far.

Personally, I enjoyed watching TJ's knot work. It's a shame he was banned but, hey! If Cressers can come back...

Respectfully 😉 I disagree. I argued/discussed differences of opinion with TJ quite often, and even changed his mind at least once (and he mine). Now maybe there's the in-real-life effect there, but I don't think so. Truth is it was perfectly possible to disagree with him without it being the end of the world.

Meanwhile, posts like this:

all lefties of any degree are dictators just under the surface, history proves this (do your own research).

are absolutely fine apparently.

Spelling defence like that probably means he can't pronounce the first bit properly, either 😉

Who is, or was, GW?

A fellow who despite apparently being very reasonable in real life just insulted everyone constantly, backed up with "I'm just telling the truth". He was rather tiresome.

I genuinely never really had cause to dislike TJ though, although his militant anti-helmet stance was amusing.

TSY I liked.

Incidentally, Fred is reading this thread. Hi Fred.

<mod>
I'd ask that you be careful making comments about him (or indeed, against any dearly departed) that they cannot respond to, as it would be somewhat unfair.

Granted, they've waived their right of reply when they earned their bans, but still. Please don't antagonise people unduly, we've more interesting things to do than deal with the fallout.

Ta.

To give TJ his due, we had a 'disagreement' on one of the religion threads (now there's a surprise ), following which he apologised via e-mail. A small thing, granted, but much appreciated at the time.

although his militant anti-helmet stance was amusing.

You must be thinking of someone else tbh, TJ was not anti-helmet. In fact, he owned and sometimes wore one when he felt it appropriate.

He was very anti-compulsion, anti "if you don't wear a helmet you're a moron", and pro "being realistic about the risks involved and the effectiveness of helmets". And not at all keen on being told what his opinions were 😉

^this, and hence whoever spells defence 'defense' being also unable to pronounce Edinburgh with any degree of success.

I get really mixed up with American towns whose names come from a British place name. Eg Cheshire in Connecticut - pronounced Che-shire in the US but obviously Chesh-er here.

If I'm referring to the American town called Cheshire, as a Brit, how should I pronounce it? 🙂

I think it's an attempt at providing a live demonstration of the sort of tedious bobbins that gets people banned.

Do you suffer from synaesthesia?

my mum HAS synesthesia*, her memories are based on colours and she by no means suffers 🙂

[* specifically she has Grapheme–colour synesthesia]
