Watched the news last night - makes you proud to be British.
Well done for to the people of Wootton Basset - tremendous dignity.
I agree wholeheartedly, a very touching display of public opinion.
If you live in the west country, you'd see it every time on the local news. Was that the first time they showed it on the national news? Nothing to do with it being a high ranking officer of course... ๐
They just need to find people who don't sound like grockles for the vox pops.
Darcy, it has been on the national news fairly often, as it happens.
deadly
It makes the news all the time, just thought I'd comment on it. Very impressive / appropriate show of support
I've seen it on the news a few times - very moving & dignified
Wasn't their some sort of attempt to have a local road renamed 'Heroes road' or something like that?
Ithink there was some talk of awardin WB a medal or something, as it is genuinely spontaneous apparently.
Shame they need to do it though.

Ah right, as you were then...so to speak
Shame they need to do it though.
Agreed - but as a show of unity for the fallen I'm glad people have common decency
Unfortunately this happens on a semi-regular basis in Wootton Bassett.
I think it helps that Bassett is so closely linked with RAF Lyneham. Loads of serving families and singlies live there and loads of us who have been dependants of people in the RAF have moved to the surrounding area.
I'd like to think that you'd see the same reaction in any town or village in the UK, after all these people have given their lives for our Country.
I find it very moving, it's a reminder that when goverments call we still have the people to go. May not agree with it at times but I respect those that go.

They want to rename the road between Lyneham and Bassett 'Road Of Heroes'
I drove through one morning before a Funeral, quite moving to see them all there.
It is genuinely spontaneous here, there's no publicity or flyers. Not even sure how the times are found out to be honest.
Most recent one wasn't much different, apart form the higher police presence and more TV crews. They've all been seeing higher and higher attendance each time so I think it would have happened regardless of the seniority of the officer.
I don't consider Bassett to be a military town, so it makes the display even more touching.
