Impulse purchases - happiness or regret

Mrs Kilo and I, before we were married, were walking up to the shops, stopped to look in an estate agents window and saw a nice looking house around the corner from my flat - we weren't even living together, nor were we looking for a house, at this stage. Put an offer in that afternoon and have owned it for 24 years now

I impulse purchased a new bike frame a few weeks ago and am waiting for it to be painted and delivered.  Looking at my bank account this month there's a tinge of regret.  However I know in a few weeks when that's forgotten and I am riding about in the sunshine there will be nothing but happiness.

I am not an impulsive person, I am a chronic ditherer and overly analytical shopper, but sometimes I wish this wasn't the case.

I can very much relate to this. But only on things for myself. I dithered for ages before ordering a Ratio upgrade kit for my SRAM Rival 11 spd at the weekend, but then thought nothing of booking a nice long weekend on Eurostar for me and MrsSalmon which cost a lot more.

I guess the upside of this is that I don't have any good stories about expensive mistakes. And I do sometimes manage to have a word with myself and say for example "you're probably going to end up getting this, so you might as well get it for the summer". But like the OP I sometimes wish I could cut to the chase sooner.

I do buy things on impulse but often when there's a good returns policy so I can send it back if it's not right (particularly clothing)

I've impulse bought lots of proper bargainous stuff off the PSAs. Only stuff I've really regretted was a few items of clothing off the CRC fire sale (generally trousers that were too short)

One of the best impulse...ish..purchases has been the Vitus Sommet off the CRC fire sale.. it's a properly good bike and I've had so much fun on it.

I say impulse ish, as I guess I did spend a few days thinking about it. To the point made by someone above..I just wasn't needing a new bike but the price and spec was too good to refuse.

Another great PSA impulse purchase was the fox x2 for £150 off merlin. Rides loads better on my transition sentinel than the previous dpx, and also has saved me the cost of fixing it (was creaking badly when it got hot- something not right at all with it)

Walked the dog, browsed autotrader, bought a car. No regrets yet. When it needs a new engine, there may be one or two. But I doubt it. Have now driven 80 miles in the two weeks we’ve owned it. Cost per mile is errrr very uneconomic, and I’ve washed it as often as I’ve driven it! First proper sports car and still under 60.
