[#1102846]

Yesterdays trip on business has made me really happy. Brighton is one of the best places I've been to in the UK.

I found people warm and welcoming (even in cold December).

There is the beach, lovely Regency buildings and a general 'live your life as you want to' attitude. Really refreshing.

came to brighton for a winter in between summer seasons.

It's the gay capital of Britain, perhaps that has something to do with it.

Maybe it was the leather chaps?!

However I think you've got to go. Its more than that. Very tolerant and chilled.

Everyone looks like they are off the cast of 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.

Probably not to everyones taste but at least you won't get your head kicked in.

I've already been. Maybe (almost certainly actually), I'm missing some society gene, but it was just another seaside town to me, perhaps with slightly more men in leather chaps than could be considered normal.

Actually it's a local bye-law down here - all gays have to wear leather chaps, so you know what they are.

Good to see prejudice and stereotyping is alive and well on STW!

You'll have to explain where the prejudice was but you've got me on the stereotyping.

I know what you mean OP, having not actually lived there, but always close-ish. It's a great place with something interesting happening every day, a bit of an adults play ground - it can wear a bit thin though, and damage your finances in the process!

All round good, as long as you look beyond the trashy pier stalls and West Street chavonista establishments.........

Yes sadly true, but happily, it's easier to avoid in brighton than most town centres I've been to (don't go down west street shitty street frequented by chavs/stag/hen doos with shit bars and shit clubs - simples), apart from this area, pretty much everywhere else I can think of is ace 🙂

Brighton is ace,, to visit, but i wouldn't want to live there as it has alot of the problems associated with a city. I'm lucky enough to live 15mins along the coast so can dip in to and out of it as i wish.

The ridings pretty good over that way as well, if you know where to look 😉

I stayed at the Grand...ace breakfast. Mrs T's favourite

The romantic ruins....and the slightly grubby side streets

Make your own mind up. I liked it

Sadly gays do get their heads kicked in quite often and sometimes even killed.

Both my Grans lived in Peacehaven, just along the road, which is where old people go to die, but spending summers with them was ace, as the delights of Brighton was a bus ride away. Happy days
