i found the real inspiration for the spinal tap film.this is a 3 part documentary of pink floyd,recording at pompeii,the classic dark side of the moon album.part 1 here:-

Did people have longer faces and brighter eyes in the 60s?

I remember watching that at the cinema and that surfing film they did the soundtrack to.
